<br /> The following communications from the City Manager were read:

<br /> ls~ - "The 0hesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company has granted the Oit~
<br />the use of the property on the northwest corner of Effingham & High Sts., which I expect to use
<br />as a precinct police station.
<br /> I expect to have these quarters equipped for police, with di
<br />rest telephone service to the station and adequate prevision made for shore patrol.
<br /> I feel ~hat. with the expansion of the City this is necessary,
<br />and the ~ost will be approximately $300,00. The use of the building is given free of rent, but
<br />with the understanding that the City will agree to indemnify and save harmless the Chesapeake
<br />and Potomac Telephone Oompany, from any loss Which it might sustain due to the City using the
<br />building."

<br /> Motion of Mr. Hutchins to concur in the Manager's recommendation and
<br />to appropriate $3OO.OO for said purpose, was adopted and by the following vote:

<br /> am negotiating for an Erie steam crane to be used in all of our street work, hauling dirt, un-

<br />rains there are some rough spots on t he streets wrdch should be smoothed over immediately. We
<br />are removing rail on SixthAve. and the street will be replaced by the W.P.A.
<br /> JeffersonSt. will be completed thru to Effingham St., immedia%=
<br />ly and we will continue as much maintenance work as we can before the winter sets in."

<br /> 6th '~My report on the filtration plant to you is that it seems most
<br />favorable and I am to confer with Mr. Rufe Ne~an of the Federal Works Agency in Washington on
<br />Wednesday at noon.
<br /> I have every reason to believe that Portsmouth will receive
<br />its filtration plant with the desired additional capacity of six million gallons per day."

<br />able us to completely sewer the unsewered area of our City."

<br />burgh,. Pa., for $95,52Y.~O~an~ one by A. G. Pinkston Oompany of Portsmouth, in the amount.of
<br />$12!,8~O.OO. A proposa£ oon~ in the amount of five per cent of the total was attached to
<br />each bid~
