9th - The Manager presented the following letter from the Superintendent of th,
Water Department:
mOur filtration plant will be severely overloaded before the new plant
can be completed and the b~st.way to relieve this situation ~s much as possible is to install
sUrface wash units in each filter. We have one of.these in service as a test and get very gee~
results from this unit. The total cost of this work willbe about $5,000..00 for material ~nd
labor. ~i feel we should not leave anything undone to take care of the prospective water short
age even at such a large cost.
These units _have been used in many plants and have been very satisfao -
Tory. Aa a matter of record the new plant in Washington, C.C. is to be equipped with these
units and they are using the ones ordered for this JoG for the eld plant to increase_~-
quantity of water until the new plant goes in service and are ordering another set for the
new plant.
I recommend immediate action necessary to install these units."
