<br />communities, adopt the payroll saving plan for its employees.
<br /> It is of utmost importance that this be acco~olished and I am there-
<br />fore recommending that the attached resolmtion be adopted."

<br />WHEREAS, it is imperative that all contribute to the War
<br />effort, a nd the Payroll-Saving Plan has been adopted a s

<br />NOW, THEREFORE, Be it Resolved bY the Council of the 0lty
<br />of Portsmouth,Virginia, that the City Manager is hereby
<br />authorized to make necessary arrangements and to provide
<br />adequate facilities for the Ol~ation of the Payroll-Saving
<br />Plan for the employees of the City of Portsmouth.~

<br />The Manager presented the following resolution and recommended its
<br />
<br />"WHEREAS, the City o f Portsmouth and the Virginia Electric
<br />and Power ComPany are co-operating in an effort to conserve
<br />tires and gasoline for the War effort, and
<br />~HEREA~, the elimination o f a number of stops on the bus
<br />lines will greatly assist in this conservation,
<br />NO~, THEREFORE, Be it Resolved by the Council of the City
<br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that we do hereby concur in the
<br />City l~uager's recommendation to limit the bus stops in the
<br />City, and that the City E~ager be authorized and empowered
<br />to designate for a sixty day trial oeriod, bus stops in the
<br />City of Portsmouth.~ -
