<br /> 5th - "Under the L~a~ham Act, authority has been granted for recrea -
<br />tional facilities. The City of Portsmouth ma~ o ossibly secure two temporary buildings, services
<br />and land for these two buildings, with no cost to the City.
<br /> I would appreciate your authority to proceed to negotiate with
<br />the Government through the Lanham Act, for funds for these two buildings and services not to
<br />exceed.$50,O00, for the yea~ 1943."

<br /> 6th - "I am in receipt of ~ letter from the Hampton Roads ~aUitation
<br />District Commission, by Vice Admiral J.K. Taussig, relative to the sewerage disposable in tD--~s
<br />a~ea.
<br /> ~The City will immediately proceed to parallel any action taken
<br />by the Commission, in order that the City will qualify under the Acts of' the Assembly, approve~
<br />April 2nd, 19~2, Chapter 380, Se~ion 4 D. ~

<br />Motion of Mr. Hutchins ~o concur in the Manager's a~tion was adopted.

<br /> 7th - "I ?~ve petitioned the Hampton Roads Board on Procurement to re-
<br /> open our incinerator case following a consultation with the U.S.Public Health Service, for
<br /> which they have made a survey of our needs.
<br /> I have been advised by 0cl. Borland that he has requested Ken-
<br />neth Markwell of the Federal Works Agency, to review this case, and in addition, the Federal
<br />Works Agency has asked the City of Portsmouth how much ~hey will contribute toward the con
<br />struction of an incinerator. The cost of this incinerator will be approximately $!lO,O00. and
<br />I would appreciate your authority to proceed in securing this incinerator ~ud for the City to
<br />'appropriate an amount not exceeding one fourth of its cost, or approximately $27,500."

<br />1942, relative to a fire stationed fire fighting equioment under Project Nc.Va 44-1k3. This
<br />office was informed on October 14th that the War Production Board had given approval to the
<br />preference rating for the aerial ladder truck, but to date have not received the priority cer-
<br />tificate~ As soon ~s this certificate is received in this office: the ~plication for prefer-
