Budget, a synopsis of <br />which appeared in the Portsmouth Star on November 27th. None appearing. <br /> <br /> The following communications from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br /> 1st - ~"I. recommend to the 0ouncil t hat authority be given the City o fl!cee, <br />excluding those open for emergency work, to be closed on. December 26th, the Saturday after <br />Christmas, also on January 2nd, the Saturday after New Year's Day. <br /> I believe our employees give faithful and arduous service and this re- <br />legation will not serve to deter the War effort in tine least. Rather, I believe the rest will <br />be of great assistance to them." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr~ Grimes to concur in the Manager's recommendation was adopted. <br /> <br /> 2nd - "Please authorize an appropriaticn of $21,163.30 to account ~3!5,which <br />is revenue received from the sale of rails removed from the street and has since been exoended <br />for pa~ing." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr,. Fox to place, said appropriation of $21~!63.30 on ~_~ *~.~rst read- <br />ing, was adopted. <br /> <br />Company: <br /> <br />3rd - The Manag~ presented the following letter from ~eter Pirsch & Sons <br /> <br /> "~e acknowledge with th~uks your ~l~e'ad¥ising that the Council had <br />authorized purchase of 85' aerial ladder truck in accordance with our bid off June 4th, 1942, <br />in the amount of $20,500.00 less 2% for cash. <br /> We appreciate this award, and will do everythin~ possible to expedite <br />shipment at the earliest date consistent with good workmanship. Harris was appointed regular Patrolman in the Police De <br />partme~, effective November 28th, 19¥2.~ <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> 6th - ~I have removed twenty parking meters from the 800 block of Himh St., <br />due to lack of revenue from tn~m and the fac~ that the-number broken in this area has ~een <br />greater than in o~her sections. <br /> Six of these meters have been placed in downtown areas ~ere the rev- <br />enue will be better and, due to scarcity of parts, the others have been placed in storame for <br />future needs. ~ ~ <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br />7th - The Mmuager presented the following ordinance~ <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE RE~JLATING THE COLLECTION OF TIN CANS IN <br />THE CITY OF P~_RTSMOUTH~ <br /> <br />Notion of Mr. Fox to place said ordinance on its first reading, was adopted. <br /> <br /> <br />
