June 8th, 194~. vote being taken, Ers. W. B. Spong was elected a member of the School Board fro~ the First trier, To A. Willett from Second District and J. H. Bain from the Third District, and by the following vote: For~ Leigh, Fox, Grimes, Hall, Howard, Hutchins, Warren, Wilson Agaihst: None The vote being the same for each. The claim of Mrs. Daisy B. Crone, that dogs destroyed eighteen chickens valued at $9.O0,~was presented. On motion, the Treasurer was authorized to pay same from funds in her hands from collection of Dog Taxes. E~tion of Er. Hutchins that we petition the Governor to reappoint Dr. Vernon A. Brooks to the ~unnel Commission, was adopted. Motion of Mr. Howard to instruct the City l~nager to contact the proper authorities for funds to repair our streets, was adopted. On motion adjourned. - ff ~ "President. City * (eon~lnuation of ~) "A copy of the letter was sent to the New Amsterdam aasualty aompany, which executed the bond of Mr. Lucenti, and arenly was received from that Oompany under date of June 1, 19~3, sta~ing: - ~That our Oompanyas the surety for the Meade ConsSruction Oompany will oomplgte the Meade Construction Company's contract, dated on or about July 295h, 19&2, with ~he City o f Portsmouth, Virginia, designated "Addi- tions to Sanitary-Sewage System, Division "A", FWA Docket No. VA 44-t~1, accessing to the said contract provisions, plans and specifications, p~- vided any and all payments ~nder the said contract, whether earned o~ to be earned, including the final payment, retained percentage and any pay - men~s for additional o~ extra work, will be made by the City o f Ports - mouth to our company in the form of vouchers or checks, payable to the New Amste~dam CasualtyOompany, payee~~ I respectfully request that my action be approved and ratified and that the New Amsterdam Casualty Company be permitted to complete the contrac~ as requested in the letter ~-~ 2uture payments be made to it."
