It was stated that Con- <br />gress in-the Act of October 2nd, 1942, clearly intended that all <br />employers end all employees would be covered by the national stabi - <br />lization policy, and since millions of public employees are engaged <br />in the same, kind of work as private employers. It was also stated <br />that the Joint Committee on Salaries and ~ages had been authorized <br />to advise whether particular adjustments were in accordance with <br />the national stabilization policy°" <br /> <br />makimg a total of <br />the last meeting, <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Fox to refer to the Budget Conference, was adopted. <br /> <br />6th - An appropriation of $17,OOO. OO to match Government grant of $68,O00.OO~ <br />$85,000.00, for sidewalks and storm sewers, placed on its first reading at <br />was taken up. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Hutchins to appropriate $17,0OO.O0 for said purpose, was <br />adopted, and by the following vo~e: <br /> <br />Ayes: Leigh, Fox, Grimes, Hall, Howard, Hutchins, Lawrence, <br /> Warren, Wilson <br />N~vs: None <br /> <br />The following letter was read: <br /> <br /> "A copy of the very thoughtful and generous resolution passed by your body <br />at. the meeting held on October 12th, 19~3, commending the Scouts and Scouters of the Portsmouthl <br />District of the Tidewater Council of the Boy Scouts of America for their work in scouting, has <br />been forwarded ~o me as District Chairman and I gladly take t?~s opportunity to confirm my oral <br />expression of thanks at the meeting at the time the resolution was passed with this written as- <br />surance of the sincere appreciation of the entire personnel of the Portsmouth District for this <br />tangible and unusual recognition of our scouting work. <br /> <br />Yours~ sincerely, <br /> <br />F.
