<br />NOW, THEREFORE, in-.csnslderation of the sum of One
<br />Dollar and cther consideration the parties of the
<br />first part do hereby gi~e and grant to the City of
<br />Portsmouth the 9ption and privilege to e~tend the
<br />period of said lease for an additional term of three
<br />years (or until December 31st, 1948) or durlng the
<br />duration of the War in which the United States is
<br />now engaged and six months thereafter, whichever it
<br />may-elect, at the reatal of Seventy-five dollars per
<br />mon~hduring said.additional period,
<br />It is further agreed that the City of Portsmouth may
<br />sublet portions of said .~premises.~

<br /> 8th - "Realizing that we are constantly 'face~ with issues involving dectsiors
<br />on the construction of ~rtain _types of buildings within the City, I am recommending that the
<br />Honorable Mayor appoint three members of the City Council to confer with the Manager, Oity At
<br />torney and City Engineer, relative ~O creating a sound zoning ordinance which will allow the
<br />Gity tO grow normally and protect the property values i n our community.
<br /> This is authorized under Virginia Code, Chapter 112 A, Section 3091
<br />(1) headed "Zoning Ordinances Generally":

<br /> 9th - "I am. reading the attached letter from Mr. Kenneth Markwell, Regionals
<br />Director, Federal Works Agency, relative to the Child Care Center in the City of Portsmouth, and
<br />it is my recommendation that this be referred to the Day Nursery Board of DirecZor$ for their
<br />recommendation."

<br /> lOth - "On December 20th, sealed bids were opened i~ the Manager's office
<br />for equil~ment at the Health Center, and in accordance with the.attached letter which I ~luote,
<br />I would recommend the acceptance of these bids, subject to the Federal Works A2ency approval in
<br />Richmond."
