<br />chase one additional pumper needed and still leave suffi-
<br />cient money with a comfortable-margin to construct our fire
<br />station, which will provide a new pumper for the Port Nor -
<br />folk area,
<br /> BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City o f Ports -
<br />mouth, Virginia, agrees $o appropriate necessary funds for
<br />any over-run due to the purchase of this pumper."

<br /> Motion of Mr. Hutchins to refer to a committee, Norfolk Oounty to be
<br />asked to appoint a committee to act with our committee, was adopted.

<br /> llth - "I have been advised by the Levin Theatre Interests of their in
<br />tention to give-up the 0ity Auditorium as of April 30th, 1944. I have received several of -
<br />fers from interested persons for the use of this property at a rental up to $2Y5.00 per month.
<br /> It appears to me that it would be-short sighted for~the Oity to
<br />allow this property to be used as a dance hall or cabaret. Itwould like to convert this area
<br />into one of two things - either a recreational club for boys and girls, or to be used by the
<br />U.S.O. as an overflow for enlisted personnel who can not find a place to sleep."

<br /> 13th - ,Councilman ~ilson requested us to ascertain the cost of a twenty-
<br />four inch drain on 0ounty ~t-, between Seventh and Ninth Avenues, and I am therefore making the
<br />attac~ed report by a letter from the City Engineer. The cost will be $4,000.00."
