<br /> "In regard to the proposed plan of the Pentecostal Houseof Prayer to
<br />build a church building, on the corner of Pearl and Queen Sts. (nomtheast or southwest corner
<br />of Pearl and Queen Sts.) we, the officials and membems of the UniversalChurch of God. located
<br />on ~ corner of Pes~l and London Sts. do strenuously object to such a step since either of
<br />the above named sitesare 9 yards and one half block respectively, from our church location
<br />here at cornermof Pearl and LondonSts. and will certainly interfere most seriously with our
<br />services.

<br />comparable ordinances in other cities, as well as the possibility of the City of Portsmouth
<br />passing an ordinance with appropriate fines and penalties at this time."

<br /> 2nd - "The seriousness of the increase in venereal diseases.is causing
<br />~ur Health DeoartmeD~ considerable cnn'cern,~ and during~the past severa~ months the increase
<br />as alarmed ~B g~ea~y, we can ac much toward combatting thtsdisease, however, it is imper-
<br />ative that the civilian population be educated and'familiar with its ravages.
<br /> It Is my r.ecommendation that His Honor, the Mayor, appoint a
<br />Citizens Oommittee to work with the Health Department in an attempt to alleviate this growing
<br />menace."

<br /> Motion o f Mr. Hutchins to concur in the Manager's recommendation, was

<br /> 3rd - "~he following letter from the City Collector,~A. E. Parker, rel-
<br />ative to personal property, is for your information:

<br />purpose on its first reading, was adopted.

<br /> 6th - "I would like ~o read you a letter received from the Board of
<br />the Oentral Methodist Church and would appreciate authority from you to move this monmment."

<br /> Motion of Er. Hutchins to refe~ back ~o the Manager for further inves-
<br />tigation and report, was adopted.

<br /> 7th - "The attached letter has been received from Kenneth. Markwell,
<br />Regional Director, Federal Works-Agency, relative-to the purchase of anadditional pumper,
<br />and for your convenience, I would llke to give a break-down of expenditures on this project
<br />to date.
<br /> The Federal Works Agency would like a resolution from this body
<br />signifying your willingness te appropriate necessary funds for any over-run on the project due
<br />to the prmchase of this equipment, and I am therefore recommending that the following resolu-
<br />tion be adopted:
