C. <br /> Project No. VA 44-~62-N <br /> Dated April 15, 1944. <br /> <br />City of Portzmouth, <br />Portsmouth, Virginia. <br /> <br /> Subject to the terms and conditions (~¢A form No. ~-!O0, <br />dated Oct0her 15, 1943) attached hereto and made a part hereof, the UNITED STATES OF <br />AMERICA hereby offers to make you a grant of $20,000.00 tO aid in financing the acquisition <br />and construction of a public ~orks consisting of Child Care Facilities, including necessary <br />land and necessary equipment (herein called the "Project"), at the presently estimated cost <br />to you of $33,100.00: Provided, however, that if the actual cost to you cT the Project upon <br />completion, as determined by the Federal Works Administrator, is less than the orssently <br />estimated cost specified above, the grs~ shall be reduced to an amount w'Hieh' ~bears the~- ~ · <br />same ratio to said actual cost as the amount of the grant soecified herein bears to the said <br />estimated cost. - <br /> <br /> Nothing herein shall be construed as vesting in 'any department or agency ofthe <br />United States power to exercise any supervision o r control over such facilities, nor <br />~hall any of the provisYon~ hereof be construed as prescribing or affecting the administra- <br />tion, personnel, c~rricu!um, instruction, methods of instr~ction, or materials for instruc- <br />tion in the maintenance and operation of such facilities. <br /> <br />UNITED STATES OF AMERICA <br />Federal ~orks Administrator <br /> <br />By Baird Snyder <br /> Assistant Administrator." <br /> <br />"ACCEPTANCE OF THE OFFER <br /> <br />OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there has been filed with the Federal ~ork~ Agency in behalf of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, (here~n called the "Owner"), and app~lication for Federal assistance <br />under the War Public ~orks Program, and the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, acting by and through <br />the Federal ~orks Administrator, has transmitted to the Owner an Offer of Federal assistance <br />in connection with the public works referred to in said application and described in <br />Offer; and <br /> <br /> W HER~gS, said Offer has been duly read in open meeting, fully <br />accordance ~th all pertinent rules of procedure and leg~ requirements, <br />of the Owner's public records; and <br /> <br />considered in <br />and made a part <br /> <br /> WHEHEAS, it im deemed advisable ~ud in the public interest that said Offer be <br />accepted; <br /> <br /> NO~ ~HEREFORE, be it Resolved by the City Council of the Owner that the said <br />Offer, 44~36~-N , a true and correct copy of which, inclnding the Terms and Conditions, <br />is hereto attached, be and the same hereby is accepted without reservation or qualification. <br /> <br />1944~ <br /> <br />Passed by the aforementioned governing body of the Owner on the 25th day of April, <br /> <br />Publication not required. <br /> <br />to <br /> <br /> City Clerk.~ <br /> <br /> Motion Mr. Warren 'to place on its first reading an appropriation <br />'44-362-N,was adopted. <br /> <br />of $3,1oo.00 <br /> <br /> tl - "The Compensation Board of the State of Virginia has signified its willing- <br />ness to increase the salary of one of the Sheriff's deputies from $1,800.00 to $2,160.00 <br />per year. <br /> <br /> In order for this recommendation to be culminated, the Council will have to <br />authorize by resolution, their willingness to pay our proportionate part of the increase. <br />I recommend the adoption of the following resolution: <br /> <br /> "WHEREAS, the Sta~e Compensation Board has signified its willingness to <br />raise the salary of one of the Sheriff's deputies, purusant to his request of April 22nd, <br />and <br /> WHEREAS, it is i~oossible to secure a deputy for less than $2~160.00, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Portsmouth advise the <br />Compensation Board of its willingness to pay its proportionate part ofthe increase necess- <br />itated by this salarey adjustment." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Grimes to approve said resolution and to appropriate $!20.O0 <br />for said purpose, was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />A yes:L~, Hall~ FoE~ Grimes, Howard, Hutchins, Warren, Wilson. <br />Nays : None <br /> <br /> <br />
