<br />Pearsatl, Princioal Engineer~ Federal Works A~ency, relative to our two recreational centers,
<br />VA44-374 and V£44-375, and the construction of our fire station, known as VA
<br />
<br />'This is to advise you that this office received
<br />preliminary plans and specifications covering
<br />the proposed, construction of two recreation build-
<br />ings in your City. These documents were immediately
<br />forwarded to our Rict~ond office on Saturday, April
<br />22nd, the same day they were received by us. ~Ye were
<br />informed by telephdne that theyarrived at the Rich -
<br />mond office in this morning's mail and will be imme -
<br />diately processed.
<br /> The pls~s and specifications for fire s~ation ~ere
<br />received today and will be ~O~warded to Richmond
<br /> in today's mail."

<br />rela$ive to a program for the colored hospital in the City of Portsmouth.
<br /> It is necessary that we submit a tentative site to the Federal
<br />Works A~enoy in c~ler that the project will not be held up.
<br /> The plot south of the Tr~xton School, w_h_ich has been donated
<br />to the Portsmouth Commnnity Hospital, and the area near Mr. Hermon have been suggested. It
<br />appears that the greate~ portion of our colored population and the doctors womld prefer see-
<br />
<br />inn th~s hospital near the Truxton area.

<br />forty-five days, I am therefore requesting that the'following resolution be adopted:

<br /> Contract VA 44-141, Division 'B', has extended forty-
<br /> five days over their contrac~ period, and
<br /> WHEREAS, this delay ~as Unavoidable,
<br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Oity o f Ports-
<br /> mou~h~ Virginia, that the said New Amsterdam Casualty
<br /> Company be granted an extension of forty-five days on
<br /> said contract, subject to the approval of the Federal
<br /> Works Agency'.

<br />with interest at six per cent.

<br /> 5th - "~e have received from the Portsmouth Library~Association,~4rs.
<br />0ornelia B, Reid, President, a deed to the property near the intersection of ~outh ~nd Effing-
<br />h~m Sts., which is to be used as a site for the construction of a colored library.
<br /> Please authorize the Manager to officially accep~ this on be-
<br />half of the City and have the City A~torney to check on the deed and have same presented back
<br />to this body for official acceptance.!
