<br /> ~HEREAS~, the Federal Government has agreed to allot

<br />· ~ ~EREAS, this is for the good of the people,
<br /> THEREFORE, BE ITRESOLVED -that the Manager be au ~
<br />thorized to award the contract to Trinkle and Dob-yn in the
<br />amount of $33,09'4.00, who were low bidders and were recom -
<br />mended by our Architects, Rudolph, Cooke and Van Leeuwen~
<br />and the proper officers of the City be authorized to exe ~
<br />cute the oon~ract, subject to the approval of the Federal
<br />Works Agency.~

<br />On motion of Mr~ Hutchins~ the following resolution ~ adopted:

<br /> "WHEREAS, proposal for the construction of a Fire
<br />Station Building by-the City of Portsmouth~ Virginia, covered
<br />by Federal Works Agency Project No~ VA 44-~43 were opened on
<br />July llth~ 1944 and bids were tabulated, and,
<br /> WHEP~AS~ the proposal of Trink!e & Dobyns, Portsmouth,
<br />Virginia~ of $~6~550o00, was found to be the lowest bid and in
<br />
<br /> ~NOW, THEREFOP£~ BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the
<br />City of ~ortsmouth, Virginia, that the proposal of Trinkle and
<br />Dobyns~ be accepted, and the contract for said work be awarded the
<br />~oove~mentioned bidder, subject to the approval of Federal Works
<br />Agency of the~Unitsd States, ~nd th~ the City M~uag~ be autho-
<br />rmzed to execute said contract on behalf of the City with the seal

<br /> Contract No. VA ~$~141~ Division B, ~s extended seventeen
<br /> days over their contract period, and
<br /> ~HEREAS, the del~y~ was due to unforeseen underground
<br /> str~ctures and w~re unavoidab!e,
<br /> THEB~EFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the C~ty
<br /> of Portsmouth, Virginia~ that the New Amsterdam Casualty 0~mpany
<br /> be ~granted an extension of seventeen (l~) days on said contract
<br /> without liquidated damages. Subject to the approval of the Fed-
<br /> eral Works Agency.

<br /> ~he Manager presented bills amounting to $35.00 Dresented to him by ~rs.
<br />J. C. Cows~u for treatment of her son who ~s ~bitten by a dog.

<br /> Motion of Nrc Warren to authorize the Treasurer to pay said bills from
<br />funds in her hands from collection of Dog Taxes, was adopted.
