August 8t~, 19~. <br /> <br /> Fne following letter was read and on motion referred to the City Manager: <br /> <br /> uit would be appreciated very much if you would put the following before <br />the City Council to be adopted as a resolution: <br /> <br /> We, the City Council of the City of Portsmouth, do heartily approve and <br />will s~oport t0 the limit of our privileges as Councilmen the campaign o ~ the Optomist Club <br />of Portsmouth to raise $15,000o for a boys' recreation center. <br /> The Council agrees that it will furnish the equipment for the cente~, the <br />cost of the equipment no~ to exceed $3,000. and that such equipmen~ shall be owned by the City <br />of Portsmouth. <br /> The Council agrees that the City will assist in the supervision of the <br />construction of the building and also will supervise the activities at the center agreed upon <br />by the Optomis~ Club under the Gl~y Recreation Bureau program. <br /> Than_king you very much for any recommendation that you can give in behalf <br />of the Optomist Club Campaign. <br /> Yours very truly, <br /> <br />John T. McRae, President." <br /> <br />The following letter was read and ordered filed: <br /> <br /> "The Board of Directors of the Portsmouth Day Nursery, Inc. wi~h to ex - <br />press their appreciation for your kind co-operation incident to the Ground-Breaking Ceremonies <br />held July 25th, 194~, on the site of the new Portsmouth Day Nursery Building. Your valued par- <br />ticipation helped to make the occasion one long to b e remembered. <br /> Any further interest shown the project will spur the Board members on to <br />renewed efforts to hasten the completion o f thia splendid structure~ that it may soon carry on <br />the work-of furthering the War effort for which i~ was planned. <br /> Thanking you again for all past, present and future endorsement of this <br />vital ~rk, I-beg to r emai-n, <br /> <br />Yours very truly, <br /> <br />July ist, without cost. <br /> <br />Mrs. Hubert W.
