I very respectfully request the appointment of a suitable <br />~ommittee from your Honorable Body whom I believe will amicably adjust tkis matter and <br />quickly. '~ <br /> <br /> M~tion of Mr. Howard ~o request Major Rice ~i. Touell to mee~ with the City <br />Council at his convenience, at a regular meeting or a special meeting called for that purp. ose <br />was adopted. <br /> <br />keep order. <br /> <br />Request that the Manager place officers in the aisles of the Stadium to <br /> <br /> ~{r. Fox presented the following resolution: <br /> <br /> "WHEREAS, a majority of ~e people cf our Oity believe the City <br />of Portsmouth should pay fitting public tribute to its sons and daughters who <br />hav~ served in ~ne armed forces, and <br /> <br /> %~F~S, it has been suggested that p~o!ic recognition should <br />be in the form of a library, to be kno%m as PORTSMOUTH i~UB~LIC LIBRAP. Y, which <br />csm be used no~ only by the returning members of the service but by future <br />generations as ~well and will.be a lsting tribute to those who gave their ser- <br />vices and theZr lives that this Nation should forever remain free~ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a group of citizens expects to solicit contributions <br /> from the peoole of Portsmouth for the erection of such a Memorial; <br /> <br /> NOW, TF~REFORE, BE IT Y~SOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth that the sum of Twenty-five Thousand Dollars-be ear-marked end <br />contributed by the City as its part of such~Memorial and that the said Twenty- <br />five Thousand Dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be made avail- <br />able upon the completion of the Memorial, the plans, soecifications and loca- <br />-rich of which having previously been approved by the ~o~ncil o f the City o f <br />Portsmouth, Virginia." <br /> <br />was adopted. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Hutchins, seconded by Mr. Weiseman, the said resolution <br /> <br />on motion, the Council recessed. <br />Resuming session. <br /> <br />On ~' ~'~ <br />mo~lon a <br /> <br />C ~y Clerk. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br /> President. <br /> <br /> <br />
