Owens, City Manager. <br /> <br /> Minu~es of regular meeting held March 27th and called meeting of April <br />4th were read and approved. <br /> <br />The following communications from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br /> let - "We received a proposal for the use of certain properties owned at <br />the Junction of Perry and Glasgow Sts., known as lots 59, 60~ 61 and 62 on Perry Street and lots <br />63, 64, 65 and 66 on t he south side of Glasgow Street° We would like to advertise this property <br />on April llth, for a contract to run for five years, wi~h the privilege of an additional five <br />years for the use of the land, at a fee of $250.OO per year, with the provision that there <br />s~halt be constructed on ~he property a building valued at not less than $5,000.00; ~uy building <br />on the land to be subjected to taxation by the City." <br /> <br />adopted. <br /> <br />Notion of Mr. Hutchins to concur in ~ he Manager's recommendation, was <br /> <br /> 2nd = ~Pursuant to your instructions to assist the Portsmouth Colored <br />Hospital gro~o, I b~ve arr~uged for a conference in Washington with Mr. George Fields of the <br />Bureau of CommUnity Facilities of the Federal Works Agency to discuss the status of this defer- <br />red project. <br /> In addition, I expec~ ~o confer with U.S. Public Health offi - <br />cia!s who have previously endorsed this hospital as a war-time need. <br /> The City Engineer and the Water Superintendent ?~!1 Join me at <br />the meeting to discuss the Gander Creek proJec~ and the need of water mains to Cradock area, as <br />well as reserve pU~DS for our pumping stations." <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> - ~ ~he last regular meeting o_ the City Council on Tuesday, <br />March 2yth, we extended time on three contracts under Project VA 44-269 - Water ~upp!y, and the <br />Federal Works Agency has requested us to use the attached formsin the extension of time, in lieu <br />of the original. <br /> I am therefore requesting the adoption of the three attached <br />resolutions." <br /> <br />Resolution <br /> <br />"WHEREAS, the Ahlvin Construction Company has requested an <br />extension of time of 315 consecutive calendar days for their <br />Contract No. l, ProJeot VA 44-269, <br /> THE~EFORE, Be it Resolved by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Vinginla, that the Ahlvin Construction Comp~uy,s <br />time for Contract No. I be extended on project VA 44-269 for <br />315 consecutive calendar days and the City will relieve said <br />contractor of liquidated damages in connection herewith subject <br />to t he approval of Federal Works Agency, Bureau of Community <br />Facilities." <br /> <br />Resolution <br /> <br /> ~HEREAS, C. W. Lockwood has requested an extension of time <br />of 315 ~onsecutive calendar days for their Contract No. 2, <br />Project VA 44-269~ <br /> THEREFORE, Be it Resolved by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth~ Virginia, that C~ W. Lockwood's time for contract <br />No. 2 be ex~ended on Project VA 44-269 for 315 consecutive <br />calendar days and the City will relieve said contractor of <br />liquidated damages in connection herewith subject to the ap - <br />proval of Federal Works Agency, Bureau of Community ~acilities. <br /> <br />Resolution <br /> <br /> "WHEREAS, F. L. Showalter, Inc. has requested an extension of <br />time of 315 consecutive calendar days for their Contract No. 5, <br />ProJec~ VA 44-269, <br /> THEREFORE~ Be it Resolved by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the F.L. Showalter Company's time <br />for Oontrac~ No. 5 be extended on Project VA 44-269 for 315 <br />consecutive calendar days and the City will relieve said con - <br />tractor of liquidated damages in connection with,subject to <br />the approval-of Federal Works Agency, Burea~ of Community <br />Facilities." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Hutchins, the three resolutions were adopted and by <br />the following vote, the vo%e being the same for each: <br /> <br />Ayes: Fox, Howard, Hutchins, Lawrence, Sturtevant, <br /> Warren, Weiseman, Wilson <br />Nays.
