I will b~ pleased to meet <br />'with y~u, 6'he Mayor,' and the City Attorney that day <br /> To discuss this ordinance, if possible.'" <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> 5th "The attached notice of a public hearing~relative to a tunneI <br />under the Southern Bran6h of the Elizabeth River, is delivered to you for your information.'~ <br /> <br />Attached notic~ - <br /> <br />"NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING <br /> <br />for apprgv~l <br /> <br /> 1. The application of the Elizabeth River Tunnel Commission <br />of plans of a highway bridge proposed to be constructed across the <br /> <br />EASTERN B~NCH OF ELIZABETH RIVER <br /> <br />and a highway tunnel proposed to be constructsd under the <br /> <br />SOUTHEP~N BRANCH OF ELIZABETH RIVER <br /> <br />will be considered at a public hearing to be held in the City Council Chamber, City Hall,.Atlan- <br />tic and Plume Streets, Norfolk,Virginia, at lO:OO A.M., EWT; Thursday, September 27th, 19~5, <br /> <br />2. The plans submitted provide for: <br /> <br /> (a) A highway bridge across the Eastern Branmh of Eliza- <br />beth River ~bout 1800 feet downstream from the Norfolk-Berkley toll bridge, with a double leaf <br />bascule draw span to be located in the center of the improved 5CO-foot channel and having at <br />least horizontal clear&uce of 140 feet between fenders, and a least vertical clearance of 35 <br />feet at mean high water under the draw-span when Closed; and <br /> (b) A tunnel, tentatively planned to c~rry two lanes of <br />traffic, under and across the Southern Branch of Elizabeth River approximately 1200 feet up- <br />stream from the Portsmouth Ferry slips between South Street in Portsmouth and Middleton Street <br />in Berkley, ~o be so placed as to provide a minimum depth or 60 feet between mean low water and <br />the top of the tunnel under the full width of the improved ~50 foot channel at that locality. <br /> <br /> 3- The p~ans submitted and navigat'ion charts showing the <br />sites of the pro~osed~'bridge and tunnel may be seen at the office of the District Engineer or <br />may be inspected at the hearing. <br /> ~. All interested parties are invited to be present or to be <br />rePresented at the agove stated time and place, particularly navigation interests and the offi- <br />cials Of state~ city and civic organizations, whose interests may be affected by the proposed <br />construction. They will be given an opportunity, to express their views on the suitability of <br />the location and the adequacy of the proposed plans in reference to navigation and to suggest <br />changes considered desirable. <br /> 5- Oral statements will be heard, but for accuracy of record <br />all importsmt facts and arguments should be submitted in writing for consideration by the War <br />Department. Written sta~em ents may be handed to the undersigned at the hearing, or mailed to <br />him beforehand. <br /> R.E.
