December 26th, 194~. ·

We stand to see a reduction in many of our incomes, especially in the
ferry, money in l~u of taxes from the Go~ernm~n$, bus fees and without doubt tax collections
have reached their maximum. This is not a letter of pessimism; however, I think it is~appro-
priate at this time that we all be meonversatlt ~ith the trends and be orepared to take ~ppropri-
ate action to prgt~ct the City's inter~st~ when and if l~ is necessary.
~ - '~ One of the mos~ serious aspects facing us is the gradual increase in
school costs and without doubt considerable thought should be given to the s~eparation of the
school tax cost, from other tax items. During the past five years, our school budget system has
increased from $360,3?2.00 in 194~ to $500,000.00 needed in 19~6. The separation of these
school taxes appear~ to me to be the only fair ~nd equitable method of acquainting the public
with the limitations on the municipal budget.~

On motion of ~r. Warren, the 1956 budget ordinance, as amended~ was
adopted and by the following vote:

Ayes: Fox, Grimes, Lawrence.
