~The undersigned citizens and taxpayers of Jefferson Ward wish ~o enter
the Green Street Public School to the negro pupils of the

Prior to 1911, the High School was located in part
of the Green St. School building, and m~y of our
most distinguished citizens were graduated from the
High School when located in this building. ~e wish
this building to be abandoned because it is not
suitable for either white or colored.
As property o~nere, we feel that the value of our
~0perty woula"be greatly depreciated if this.change
were made and as proRerty owners have been under a
~reat burden, especially with rent control in force,
we feel that this would work a great injustice on us.
Many of us have had our homes in this neighborhood
for many years past, and we feel that our enjoyment of
our~ homes would be lessened to such an extent that we
might be compelled zo sacrifice our homes and move from
the neighborhood.

Respectfully,

~It has been my pleasure to attend the Postal Supervisors Convention
recently held in Charlotte, N.C., February 20-24 inclusive, 19~6.
While in Charlotte, I was honored with a special invitation to attend
a most elaborate celebration held in honor of the signing of the Mecklenburg Declaration of In-
dependence May 20,ty~5, and at the same time honoring George Washington, it being held on his
birthday anniversary.
Special prints of this famous declaration were made and given out as
souvenir~ commemorating this occasion. I was able ~o obtain several of these prints and I
deem it an honor to have the pleasure of presenting one of these prints ~o the Law Makers of
our City of Portsmouth, Virginia.
Many worth, nile resolutions were adopted at our convention which, if
later become enacted into law will prove beneficial and improve the Postal Service generally.
