0ctober~Sth, 19~8. <br /> <br />Portsmouth Cotuucil in their re~mlar session on October <br />8th, 1946. <br /> This resolution was read and adopted at the regular <br />meeting of this Local on October ?th, 1946. <br /> <br />Lee = Blanks President, <br />Decal No. 922 of international <br />Union of 0peratz..g Engineers. <br /> <br />The following communications from the City Ms_uager were read: <br /> <br /> 1st - ~I am appointing the fgllowing four men to the regular Police <br />Department, f or a p~obationary period of fou~ months: <br /> <br /> Robert Anthony Young, William_ Jennings Ullom, <br /> Charles Bu~foot Buchanan, Jr., W.J. Archer, Jr." <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> 2nd - ~The City wishes ~o open a street from Eighth Ave. to Scotts Creek <br />(west) and we a~e able to purchase a lot fromm Nms. L.J. ~ti~ f or $500.00. <br /> We believe bi~ts to b e a very p~actical plan and i recommend au - <br />thority to p~rchase t~he lot for this sumo~' <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. ~'ilson to place an appropriation of $500.00 for said put <br />pose on its first reading, was adopted, <br /> <br /> 3rd - ~i sm in receipt of the attached letter from E. E, Combs, Chair - <br />man of the -ompensatzon Bosrd of the State of V~rgznia. <br /> <br />~To the City Manager of the City of Portsmouth: <br /> <br />In conformitywith ~he provisions of ~napter 364 of the Acts of Assembly <br />of 1934 m~d Chapter 386 of the Acts of Assembly of 1942, ten days' w~it- <br />ten ~otice is hereby ~ven you that the C~ensation Board ~l[ meet on <br />the 18th day of 0ctober~ 1946, beginning at l0 o~c~ock.A~M, on that day <br />in the State Capitol, Ezclmmond, Virginia, for the purpose of fixing the <br />salary smd expenses of the Attorney for the Commonv~alth, Co?m~zss~one_ <br />of the Revenue, Sergeant and Treas~ver of the City-of Portsmouth for the <br />year beginning January l, 19~V, and ending December 31, 1947. Broome of the Federal Public Housing Authority has agreed <br />to the transfer, provided ti~e purchaser, the City of Norfolk, willwaive this right, and in <br />telephone conversation with both of these gentlemen, it was my Understsmding that tlme agree - <br />merit can be ~de. I would appreciate your confi~mationo~ <br /> <br />Telegram - <br /> <br /> Confirming telephone conversation,ma agree to take at your cost <br />building in Dale Homes Section adjoining propert-ywe have leased <br />from Seaboard.
