<br /> On motion of Mr. Howard, the rules were suspended to hear gr. Ralph G. Smith of the
<br />Disabled American Veterans, who asked the City to give that organization a set of colors to
<br />cost not more than $175.95.
<br />
<br /> Motion o f Er. Howard to appropriate $175.95 for ~aid p~pose was adopted, and by
<br />the following vote:

<br /> let - "Effective May 14th, I a_~peinted E. N. Boshall, for a probationary period
<br />of fou~months as a member of the Port~uouth Police Department.
<br /> Effective May 19th, Z appointed R.L. Morgan, for a probationary period of
<br />four months, as a mamber of the Portsmouth Police Department."

<br /> 2nd - "Effective J~ue 16th, with~ your permission and an appropriation of neces-
<br />sary funds, we plan on transferring the Juvenile, Domestic, Traffic and Civil Court proceed-
<br />ings from the present Court to the offices that have been used by the Draft Boards on the
<br />third floor of the ~arket Building. The new office will be known as the Adolescent Hearing
<br />Chamber.
<br /> At a conference with Judge 0asr and Er. ~bster, plans ~e being made to
<br />put this into effect on June 18th, and in my opinion, this is a s tride fo~ard for the City,
<br />as it relieves childmen from the court atmosphere ~ud allows ou~ citizens to attend to court
<br />affairs removed from the jail~"

<br /> 4th - "In January, 19~6, we requested the installation o f fifty-nine lights in
<br />the Prentis Park are~ Many would be at points where city blocks are unusually long and would
<br />be for the protection of the public fngeneral.
<br /> We make every attempt to have bette~ lights in. our City for the protec-
<br />tion of the public and I would like your authority to proceed with the installation of as many
<br />of the lights as the Electrical Department deems necessary."

<br /> 5th - "I would like to be out of the City frc~ June 15th th~uugh Ju_ue 29th, and
<br />requesting you~ permission for same."

<br />Motion o~ Mr. Howard tog rant the Manager's request, was adopted~

<br /> Motion of NLv. Wilson that the Mayor act for the Manager, during Dis absence,
<br />was adopted~
<br />
<br /> 6th - "There is an open d~ain at the north end of Pinners Point baseball field
<br />and I believe there is a sufficient amount of money appropriated that this drain could be in -
<br />eluded in our improvement program.
<br /> I would like you~ authority to install this drain and have your aas~-
<br />anco that in the event there are not su£ficient funds to complete it, that the necessary ap -
<br />propriation to finish the job bould be m~de available."
