Fuel 0al Co-0rdmnator."

~otion of ~r. ~oward that the officers be thanked for their extra service, was
adopted.

5rd - ~,I Write to you not only as a minister, but as a sports en -
thusiast who is concerned~ith the physical side of life as well a s with the spiritual. T~a
will be able to help me with a matter which may appear to b e tri~lo But actually it is not
so trivial as it may seem.
E~nile in Randolph- Bacon College and the Duke Divinity School.
i gave a good portion of my time to athletics, especially baseball. I mm beginning mys econd
year as a p~stor and it concerns me that so many ministers of ~y a6quaint~nce h ere in Ports -
mouth take no interest in sports, i can easily~derstand how a minister's sched~xle could be-
come so crowded that ~hewould find little ti~e for such. But the fact still remains that we
can not preach effectively about ~abundant living~ unless we are willing to develop the physi-
cal - as well as the spiritual and mental - side of life. ~any of our ministers would be far
greater assets in building the Kingdom of God if they would get out once in a while and get
the cobwebs out of their brans and the kinks out of theirmuscles. I b~ve a plan - will you
help me make it work~
i would like to urge more of the ~inisters in the Portsmouth
Einisterial Union to take up golf as a means of recreation. ~is is a ~good cutdo~ game that
most of them could learn to play. It csn be a rather expensive game, and therefore, very few
o~ o~r mi~sters even consider such a venture. In most cities ministers are allowed to play
the courses free. Z was able to t~e up the game last s~er while on my vacation ~n Salis-
but~y, N.C., because this was t~e. A friend of mine (minister) from Danville, Va., visited me
last fall and was surprised to find that we have to p~sg aE teen fee at the City Park course, i
am against giving the minister special p~ivileges in everything -~s_u old idea that still pre-
vails in some quarters - but i do fe~el that the request about to be made is a reasonable one.
¥~y not make it possible for ministers to play on the City Park cours~ v~thout having to pay a
green fee? If you will see that this goes through in the near fut~e, I will see that more of
o~ ministers get out to enjoy ~s game ~n the spring and thereby e~Imance their effectiveness
in the christiam ministry.
Your co-operation in.this matter will be greatly appreciated.
i hope to hear from you, at your earliest convenience, concer~ing my request.

Sincerely yours~

Roy Everett.'~

0n motie~, referred to the act{rig City Manager.

4th ~The ~auagex~e~t Co~itt~e of the Veterans Information and Ser-
vice Center rgspectfully submit a revised set of by-laws for the operation of the Center for
consideration and approval oV your honorable body. ~q~ e m~.ority of your ~anagen~nt Committee,
after due consideration of a_,l phases of the work of the Center, the future services required
by veterans, their dependents and other War workers roquiring aid of ~he Center, feel that a
more compact s_nd workable organization i s necesss~y.
Specifice~ly, the orooose~ chan~es ~ount to ~he elimination
of one com~ittee (The E~ecutive Commifte$) a_ud a reduo~mon mn numoer of ~e ~anageme~ Coummmt-

A copy of our operations report far Dec~ber l~? is attached
showing a continued service to veterans and others in considerable number. ~We welcome any com-
ments or suggestions your group might have to Offer .

Yours very ~' '~

Luther T.S~elI, Chai_~man."

On motion filed.

5th - ~Te Southern Railway Company now operates as its Norfolk Divi-
.sion a line of railroad between ~est 'No~folki
Pittsylvmnia Co~xnty, Va.
