4th ~Attached is a letter f~om X.D. ~iurden, Suoerintendent of the ~ater
Department, reco~.ending the purchase of 8~ acres of land on Route ~8 adjoining the Norfolk
and ~este~n Railroad.
I have made no investigation of this matter, and I suggest that the
Co-~cil give -it consideration. I asked Mr.~ ~urden to call the attention of the Conm~ittee re-
cently appointed to consider some matters of th~ ~ater Department, to this matter.~

=~. Ernest Oliver, the owner of that portion of the Holland F~rm adjoining
our property and situated between Route #88 and the Norfolk and ~?estern
Railroad, has au offer to develop this property for residential purposes.
We can purchase all of this property except a strip four hundred (400') feet
wide extending along the highway from our line to the Norfolk and ~estern
'Railway for ten thousand, five hundred doli~rs(~10.800.00). This tract con-
tains approximately fifty-three and one-half acres~5~).
~e believe it would be to our advantage to purchase this property to pre-
vent construction of houses with septic tar~s close vo the lake.
The State Health Dep~tment recorm~.ends that we purchase this property as a
precautionary measure in the protection of our water supply? We recommend
purchase of this property, which will require an ~propriation of six thou-
sand dollars (~6,000.00), as we have an appropriation for purchase of land
of five thousand dollars ($$,000.00) iht he 1948 budget of v~aich ~proxi -
mately four hundred ~nd five dollars[~408.O0) has been expended.~'
