<br />respectfully reports that they have examined the Code prepared by Mr.M.L. Clement, Special
<br />Code Consultant of the Southern Standard Building Conference and desire to e~oress their ap-
<br />preciation for the a ssistsmce rendered by N~. George Van Leeuwen, architect in this cormection.
<br /> Your committee is of the opzn~on that the Code should be adopted with a
<br />few minor changes which have to be sent to ~ r. Clement. They recommend that the code be printJ
<br />ed and adopted in its printed form. However, if any member of the Council desires any chaug~
<br />in t he ordinance, this should be considered before it is printed.

<br /> lst- "I find that the gross revenue of the Water Works system f rom consumers
<br />outside of the City limits in 1947, was ~263,6~V.85 and flue gross revenue derived from the
<br />whole system was $V48,373.05. The proportion of the revenue from consumers outside of the
<br />city limits to the tot~ gross revenue, w as 35,933%.
<br /> .Under the provisions of Section 435 a of the Tax Code of Virginia, a
<br />report of the above facts should be made to ~he Commissioner of the Revenue of Ns~semond
<br />Oounty before ~pril 1st. I request that I be authorized to make such a report."

<br /> ,~WHEREAS, it is th.e judgment of the Council that the abandonment of said
<br />operation will be detrimental to the transportation, trade, commerce,sad industries of the
<br />City and its inhabitants, therefore,
<br /> Be it Resolved by the Co~ucil of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia:
<br /> ~ection I - That the State Corporation Commissionis hereby
<br /> requested to intervene in Finance Docket No. 16000, application
<br /> of Southern Railway Company for a certificate of public convenience
<br /> and necessity authorizing it to abandon operation over the lines of
<br /> railroad of the Atlantic and Danville Railway Co~pany between West
<br /> Norfolk, in Norfolk County, Virginia, and Jell, ess in Necklenburg
<br /> County, and Danville, in~Pittsvylvania County, Virginia~ t o t l~ end
<br /> that operation over the Atlmut~c and Danville Railway be not dis-
<br /> continued upon the termination, July l, 19~9, when t he lease between
<br /> the Atlantic and Danville and the S~uthern Railway ~ompany ends.
