<br />the City, a beautiful bronze plaque presented by ~. ~lex. Grice iii, in memory of the late
<br />Dr. Joseph Grice. This plaque, placed on the wall at the~Health Center, contains th~ follow-
<br />lng inscription:

<br /> Health Pioneer: Beloved Physician: Through his efforts
<br /> and interest a laboratory was establiahed in 1896. Ap -

<br /> Dr. Grioe was one of the outstanding p ione~s in public heath in
<br />the City of Portsmouth. ~oughhis study, Dr,. Gri~e contributed much in th~ improvement sz~
<br />and safety of water and milk supply. He was bacteriologist for ei~uteen years and served as
<br />~edical Inspector to the public schools for fifteen years. He was always vitally interested
<br />
