On mption o f Mr. Weis eman, the report was accepted and the following ordinar~e was placed~on its first reading: "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND Ah~D REORDAIN SUBSECTION 6 of Section .4. 01~AN ORDINANCE ADOPTED BY THE C.0.U~CIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH ON JULY 28th, 1926, entmtled, ~AN ORDINANCE TO PJEGULATE MOTOR BUS PASSENGER TRANSPORTATION IN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH~ A~TD AI~ENDNEh~S THEREOF." The following letters from the City Manager were read: 1st - "We have received~numerous complaints from citizens who at- tend church in the neighborhood of~the City stadium, about the use of the stadium during regu- lar church hours, and with your permission, I shall issue orders that the stadium shalln et be used for athletic everzts between the hours of ll:00 'A.E., and 12:30 P.M., nor after 7:30 P.M., on Sundays. I shall appreciate some expression from you on this matter?~ Motion of Er. Wilson to concur in the Eanager's recommendation, w as adopted. 2nd - Th~ ~ermcm~ Legmen, in sponsoring a Community Band, has d~n~ considerable work in the City Park, mn connection with the Sunday afternoon band concerts,whzc~ are being held for the benefit of the public, and they a~e asking for an appropriation o f to complete the installation of the band shell i~n the Park. This concert is drawing several thousand people and I sugges~ that this appropriation be made.~ Motion of ~. Howard to place ~u appropriation of $800.00 for said purpose, on its first reading, was adopted. 3rd - "I have inspected the high school corridors and stairways, which embrace the work which Mr. Hunt proposes to do in that building. Water has gotteni rite this plastering to such an extent that the lime has started to effervesce and fall to the floor. The metal corner beads .have started to rust to such an extent that they will soon rot away from the wall. Some of thms work is on the stairways leadim~ to the auditorium end if it is not repaired, I feel certain that some of the walls will fall. I do s~gest that this work ~e done at once. The cost involves 'an e xpendit~re of $11,835.00 and this amount should be included in the bonds which will be sold to take care of the appropriations made at the last meeting of the Council, ~or high'school repairs.~ MotionofMr. Howard to place an appropriation of $11,835.00 for said purpose on its first reading, was adopted. 4th - "People who make application for the installation of fuel oil tanks are being delayed several days in having their applications approved, due to the present ordinance, w~ch requires the ' Cmt~ ~anager s approval of these applmcatmons. can see no necessmty for thms because these installations are supervised by the Fire Department. I should like to have you amend the present ordinance deleting the psmt which requi~es the City Manager's signature on these applications, and there- by expedite the issuance of such pe~mits.
