The other probation
officers can serve as they are doing_at the present in the Police Court.
I strongly recc~mend the~ above reorganization because I am s aris-
fled that it will reduce the number of juveniles now being brought into co'~t for trial.~

Motion o£ Mr. Stu~tevant t,o concur in the manager's recommendation,

was adopted.

8th - ~Attached hereto is a copy ~f the prices furnished by eight
manufacturers of fire ~zght~no~ equmpment~cn two 750 gallon pe~ minute fare pumpers.
Chzef ykes and I have gone over the speczfzcatzons of tt~ se
different makes of equipment and we have decided to recommend that the City of Portsmouth place
an order with the Ame~icsm La F~ance Company for these pumpers specifying the 204 horse power
mot OrS.
~e favor ~ais equipment for the following re.asons - The Amer-i
ican La France pumDe~is mounted en a truck so constructed as to pez~mit the drmver to be in
f~ont of the motor which e~ables him to have a clearer vision around corners and the wheelb, aseI
is considerably shortene~ due to this improvement which means .that the truck can be tur~ed
a much shorter distan.ce than the conventional model: We thimd~ this company has taken a d elan-
itc lead in post war zmprovements over othe~ compam.~-es who seem to Be quoting onthe same appar-
atus whichwas furnished before the wa~.
