<br />of Dinwiddie Street and in the surrounding neighborhood do hereby respectfully request that
<br />the City Council take irmmediate steps to eliminate the overflow of water from the Elizabeth
<br />River which begins at the foot of Dinwiddie 8treat. Thais condition is caused by the lack of
<br />proper flood gates or sea wall. This condition has existed for m~uy years and has resulted in
<br />the periodic loss By many of the undersigned of considerable personal property in t heir base-
<br />ments, garages and outhouses. It has also resulted in considerable damage to lav~ns, shrubbery,
<br />foundations, concrete walks and ~iveways. It has caused the land to be washed away. It
<br />caused drainage and drainpipes to become clogged, necessitating the expenditure of large sums
<br />for plv~nbing bills and the resultant deposit of waste, leaves a terrible stench and is detri-
<br />mental to the health of the occupants of the property in this neighborhood:
