It is therefore not safe for our women folks to make a <br />transfer at this point and I therefore appeal to you and your honorable body to s es that you <br />have the requirement of Dransfer at this point changed at once. As you will recall, when I <br />first called this to your attention, you contacted Nr. Pope of the Virginia Tra~it Company <br />he promised you that this condition would be corrected. Johnson, Assistant to General Chair- <br />man, Brotherhood of Railway and Stean - <br /> ship Clerks.~ <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. ~eiseman, the following resolution w as adopted: <br /> <br /> =That all funds which are received umder the Utility Tax Or~ nance be <br />placed in a special f~ud to be used for new school buildings, equipment and rehabilitation of <br />present buil~oings.~' <br /> <br />The following letter from the Superintendent of schools was read: <br /> <br /> "The School Board, at its meeting on Friday, March 4th, 1949, adopted <br />the resolution given below and directed that I send it to your honorable body: <br /> 'Since it was October llth, 19R8 that ~he School Board <br /> appeared in person before the City Council, and since <br /> the Board has received no reply since that date, the <br /> School Board make another Fore, al request to appear be- <br /> fore the City Council within three weeks in regard to <br /> the Building Progran.~~ <br /> <br /> =o~on of Mr. Howard that a conference be held with the School Board,as <br />early as convenient with both bodies, v~s adopted. <br /> <br />acknowledged filed: <br /> <br />The following letter from the School Board was received and ordered <br /> <br />the resolution given <br /> <br /> ~The School Board, at its meeting on Friday, March 4th, 1949, adopted <br />below and directed thmt I send it to your honorable body$ <br /> ~That the City Council be requested to purchase the <br /> land ~mediately across Griffin Street from the West- <br /> haven School for use as a public playground and also <br /> for a school playground.~~ <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Approved <br /> <br /> President. <br /> <br />City Clerk. <br /> <br /> <br />
