The greetings ~ud ~resentations took place at the pre-
game ceremony before a baseball game in Portsmouth,Engl~ud~
~ne ceremony itself lasted only a few minutes but I believe ~aat in
those few minutes ~he English people learned something about us and our customs. ~everal other
United States cities named Portsmouth were also represente~.
My part in the ceremony was to give the greeting and a short talk tell-
zng the citizens of Portmmouth, Engman w~nat my home town was like, ending with the p~esenta-
tion of your gifts. The ceremonies were a great success amd I was very proud that I represented
Portsmouth, Virginia. The baseball game which was played for a British Charity before ~,$00
people was on a beautiful cricket field and was enthusiastically received.
