100 <br /> <br /> The following letter from t he Pla~uninE and Zoning CoMmission was r e- <br />ceived and ordered filed: <br /> <br /> "At a meeting of the PIs~uning and Zoning Commission, held Septemher let, <br />1949, the Commission approved the site of Gl&sgow St. and Effingham St. for the new Police <br />headquarters. <br /> The Plano~ng Commission would also be glad to consider any other site <br />that the Council may recommend to t hem." <br /> <br /> The following communications from the City ~Quaager were read: <br /> <br /> 1st - SThe Portsmonth Fi~e Department is ~uxious to have unifor~ ever - <br />coats supplied to them and since there is no spprepriation made i n the Budget, I ~m submitting <br />this to you without recommendation.~ <br /> <br /> The privilege of the floor was granted members of the Fire Department, <br />who claimed they were promised overcoats a~ud had not received them. <br /> <br /> Motion of Nri Henderson to place on its firs~ reading an appropriation <br />of $3,~00.00 for same, was adopted. <br /> <br /> ~nd - The City ~anager presented two additional bids on sewerage in <br />V~ilson and Tyler ~'a~ds. <br /> <br /> On motion, the same was refer~ed to a committee. The Chair appointed <br />Messrs. Duke, Houghton and Henderaon to .said Committee. <br /> <br /> 3rd - ~t recommend that J. ~. Brough$on, v~o is a hoseman, first class, <br /> be ~etired effective October let, 1949, at the usual 'rate of one-half salary, which is in the <br /> amount of $3S0.~8 for this fiscal yea~." <br /> <br /> Motion o f ~r. Wilson to concur in the City l~ianager~s recommendation,when <br /> approved by the Retirement Board, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 4th - "I have a communication from Councilman V;eiseman which I Shall <br /> read and I recommend that this p~operty be made available for a Boy Scout cabin." <br /> <br /> Inclosure ~'The Jackson Memorial Baptist Church is sponsoring a Boy Scout tr6op and <br />they are in need of quarters. <br /> They intend to ask some public spirited citizen or mitizens to denate a <br />builai~g if they can secure a location. <br /> On the east side of Cs~uden Ave., beginning at Lincoln St., the City owns <br />several lots and the church has approached me on t he question of whether arrangements could be <br />made whereby they might secure ~the use o~ one of these lots for the pur~0ose of erecting a Boy <br />Scout cabin.
