Street ~d Ro~m~n Avenue, to provide better service to the ~esthaven School.
There was some justification for co~p~&int on the afte~oon service
be reasonably sure that these buses will be on time every day s_ud '~ill provide excellent
t~sportation for the school chil~en. The mo..lng school service is not changed, and is
~ded by havi~ t~ee buses on the re~lar 0~egon Acres route, cross the A .... ne ~npzke
~.e objections to red.outing the Oregon Acres Line, &s p~posed, are

1. There is little business to be Obtained fr~ this area. Prac-
ticzlly all houses a~e within a thous~_d feet of existing
Portsmouth Transit ~outes,
The block between Race S%~ee$ &nd G~tffln St~ee~ is used as a
playground~ It is ~udesirable, fr~m a safety st~dpoint, for
buses to travel ~o~g the streets which bo~de~ playgrounds.
~e zdditional dist~uce involved is approx~¢.ately 0.2 miles
pe~ t~ip ~d would require all buses ~o c~oss the ~Iine Boule-
v&~ at Rodman Avenue, a dangerous intersection~
P~ce Street and Louisa Avenue a~e narrow, lined with s b~ubbe~
~d less suitable to bus t~affic than ~e streets on which we
now operate.
5. ~e will lose some riding, due ~o patrons in Oregon Acres
desiring to ride this time-cohering, increased dist~uce.
6, ~e c~ e~ect ~ additional dec~ease in business by placing
o~~ buses farther away f~om the concentration o f homes in the
~ea bo~uded by Lincoln Street, ~berland Avenue, Airline
Tu~pike &nd Ro~u Avenue,

We consider the ~esthaven SeZ¢.ool t o be well served under ~e arrange
merit outlined, The many objectionable features of the proposed re-routir~ would, in our opin-
ion, provide less convenient service to the, majority of o~rpatrons riding in this a rea, and
pose a penalty on our operations in a territory which i s very unproductive at this time.
C. The request made by Counci%m~_n Henderson to recheck the Park View
bus service to determine, if increased business since September let does not justify more ser-
vice on this line.
Enclosed is a tabulation showi~ the passengers carried at the
load point on the Park View line. This check was ~aken on Thursday~ October 15 and Fridsy~
October la. The check shows that an adequate service is now being rendered with the present
schedule, it is particularly interesting to note that mo~e seats are provided at all times¢
any one hour period~ ths~ passengers carried, except between the hours of 4:00 and 5:00
inboumd aud 5:00 and 6:00 P.E., outbomud, which is during the afte~oon rush~ %me line will be
It is the opinion of the ~¢o~,~m~t~ee that ti~e proposal offered by
