This contribution will be provided with staff supervision time. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Robinett, and seconded by Mr. Benn, to transfer $53,289 for the <br /> ~g Education Program Council for Violence Against Women (STEP), <br />and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Clemons, Griffin, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />97-24 - Motion to transfer $33,312 from the Grants Contingency Account for the <br /> Parents and Children Against Violence Program. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br /> Motion to transfer $33,312 from Grants contingency account for the Parents <br />and Children Together Against Violence program. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />This program was previously funded as a grant by the Virginia Department of <br />Social Services to provide services to parents and children (ages 8 to 18) who <br />had been involved with Child Protective Services. <br /> <br />· A total of 54 families participated and benefited from the program, and several <br /> children were returned to their parents from foster care. <br /> <br />· Portsmouth General Hospital Foundation has agreed to fully fund the program for <br /> one year to allow time and opportunity to arrange ongoing funding. <br /> <br />· Referrals are received from Child Protective Services staff, the courts, the <br /> schools, the Community Services Board, and parents. <br /> <br />The program helps to reduce or eliminate incidents of physical violence among <br />participants by helping them to learn and recognize the negative consequences <br />of violence. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· The source of funding is from the Portsmouth General Hospital Foundation for a <br /> total $33,312.
