137 <br /> <br />sulting frc~ the necessary more detailed studies and surveys, the following motion was duly <br />executed: <br /> <br />That the assemblsd repPesentatives request the Lower <br />Peninsula Planning Co~ssion of Virginia to recommend <br />to the involved governing bodies that a tunnel ~on~nission <br />be created for the purpose of carrying out the proposed <br />objectives. <br /> <br /> In the regular monthly meeting of the Lower Peninsula Planning Commissioz <br />of Virginia, held at 8:00 P.M., December 1Sth, 1949, the evening of the same day as the meet- <br />ing above described, the Director submitted a brief sunmaary report on the study of the pro - <br />posed tunnel, including the requested motion for the creation o f the Tunnel Commission. The <br />discussion onthe report resulted~ a motion duly executed as follows: <br /> <br />That the Lower Peninsula PZanning Commission of Virginia <br />recommends the desirability of a tunnel in the H~npton <br />Roads area cormeoting its north and south shores and recom- <br />mends to the local governments and to Norfolk and Portsmouth <br />that a commission or association be formed to continue the <br />study of such a system. <br /> <br /> Copies of the minuves of the meeting referred to, in which your repre- <br />sentatives participated, have been submitted to you as soon after the meeting as was reason- <br />ably possible. Contained herein is a brief summary report of the study and the action taken. <br />In accords~ce with the instructions of this captioned commission, I am herewith submitting <br />this report and respectfully petition that the Cmty Council of Portsmouth give sincere con <br />sideration to the expressed wishes of the representatives assembled in ~he meeting referred <br />to and this Commission in meeting, in the formation of the suggested agency to carry on this <br />purpose <br /> It has been the policy of the Cormission in connection with the forma- <br />tion of any such similar Commission, to offgr their services in any necessary organizational <br />work connected therewith. If it is so desired, w e will be glad to serve in this capacity <br />for this proposed agency. A meeting of representatives from each of the gove~ments involved <br />is suggestedas a preliminary or initiative action toward the eventual establisb~nent of the <br />proposed Commission. ~e would also like to advise that the im~orr~tion collected, including <br />the many maps, photographs, aerial and otherwise, drawings, reports, minutes and c~respon - <br />deuce csm be made available to such a duly created agency. <br /> We ~wish at this time to express our deep mud sincere appreciation for <br />the many courtesies and splendid co-operation i n our work in cormection with this pro~ect so <br />important to the progress of our respective areas. .~waiting your advicss in the above matter <br />I am, <br /> Sincerely yours, <br /> <br /> J.
