The following letter from A. By,on Williams, Chairmen, the Lower <br /> Pen-nsula Planning Comufssien of Virginia~ was read: <br /> <br /> ~At the last general meeting of the representatives of the various <br /> communities in the /~npton Roads A~ea,. interested in~ the-development of ~ e proposed Hampton <br /> Roads-Tunnel, which was held in the C-hamberlin Hotel, 12:00~noon, December 18, 1949, a motion <br /> was duly executed for the creation of a Hampton Roads TuDnGelCam-mission,' to be composed of <br /> membsrs of each of the saidcommun~mes'-' to progress the work of this project for its comple- <br /> tion. The motion included that this planning commission approve this idea and request various <br /> local governments of the said communities to name official representatives to such a commis. <br /> sion. <br /> In accordance with this action, the recommendations and the request <br /> were f0z~varded to the local govez~nme~ts under a letter of De~ber ~3, 1949. All of the local <br /> governments so requested have named~their representatives ~s shown according to the a tracked <br /> list-which is herewith included for your reference and file~ Feeling that Portsmouth was def- <br /> initely ihterest%d in such ~ethods oftransportatzon' provided by a tunnel systemS such an in- <br /> vitation was f6~warded to you~ Late~, you will ~ecal I o.tr~ telephone conversation a t which <br /> time you sased ~your znterest but that action on the appointment was being deferred pending <br /> further consideration. <br /> The meeting of-~his commission was held at the Chambe~lin Hotel, 12:0C <br />noon,February 23, 1980, with the 100% attendance of the communities represented as listed.- <br />A copy of-the minutes of tha~ meeting a~e herewith inclosed for yotuv consideration and file. <br />In acbordance with action taken under one se?t.ion of the minutes, the members thereby unani- <br />tug, sly agreed to invit~ Portsmouth to be efficzally represented. We therefore tender this <br />spBcial and cordial invitation to have the City of Portsmouth represented to the extent of <br />appointing thPeemembers which was according to the minutes, the total ntunbe~ agreed on as <br />is sho~u% therein. <br /> We hope ~that you will now see the way clear to have the great City <br />of Ports~.outh lend their aid'toward the movement to complete a modern system of transporta- <br />tion~facilities s6 importan~ tc the program of this a~ea."' <br /> <br /> N~.
