Barclay,Cmty Attorney. <br /> <br /> Minutes of regular meeting held on Aprit llth, 1950 were read and ap - <br />proved. <br /> <br /> The following report from the Planning and Eoning Commission was read: <br /> <br /> "Pursuant to the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance, notice is hereby <br />~iv~ ~h~ ~ public ~e~aring will be held at 7:30 P~M., on Tuesday, April ~Sth, 19~0, in the <br />~ounci± ~na~.~er~ Mun~cmpal Building, Portsmouth~ V~rginia, for the purpose of altering zones <br />and reclassifying the following property: <br /> <br />1. Corner Riverside Drive and Nansemond St., 80 x 15% ft., <br /> lot 12, block 29, from Single Family Dwelling Class A to <br /> Two Family Dwelling Class C.~ <br /> <br /> "At a meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission, held on April 6th <br />1950~ the Commission approved the following request for rezoning: <br /> <br />Corner Riverside Drive an~ Nansemo~d St. - 80 x 1~5', lots ll and 12, <br />block 29, from Single Fammly Dwellmng Class A to Two Family Dwelling <br />Class C." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Duke to approve recommendation of the P1snning andEoning <br />Commission, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Duke, reporting for the School Committee, recommended that the <br />western bo~udary of the site for the proposed new white ~gh school be moved to conform to th~ <br />request of the School Board and that immediate study be given the question of establishing <br />a new municipal golf course. <br /> <br />was adopted. <br /> <br />Motion of ~. Houghton to concur in the recommendation of the Committee <br /> <br />was read: <br /> <br />The following report from the Committee on site for new police station <br /> <br /> "We submit herewith a list of the several parcels of land needed for <br />the erection of the proposed new Police Headquarters building on the block bounded by the <br />cemetery wall, Grace~ Green and North Streets with the amounts agreed upon by your committee <br />to be offered to the several property owners. <br /> We recommend that the s~s agreed upon be offered the various propert) <br />owners.and that the options~ on which the co.m?itt~e agreed, be exercised and that an appropri <br />ation mn the s.u~. of $35,000.00 be placed on mts fmrst reading with the understanding that the <br />General Fund wmll be reimbursed with a like amount from Bond funds to b e provided for the <br />payment of the building and site. <br /> Frank N. Bilisoly, J.N. Howard, <br /> F. A. Duke." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Houghton~ an appropriation of $35,000.00 to purchase <br />the described property was placed on its first reading. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Bilisoly that the City Manager be instructed to secure <br />bids for the construction of the new police station~ was adopted. <br /> <br /> The following letters from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br /> lst--I submit herewith copies of the proposed 'ordinance covering the <br />re-routing of certain bus lines in the City of Portsmouth requested by thePortsmouth Transit <br />Company. I reeow~end ~that it be placed on its first reading." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Homghtonto suspend the rules to hear from Nr, Bradshaw <br />of the Transit Company, who spoke in reference to the proposed ordinance, was adopted. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Warren to lay on the table was adopted, <br /> <br /> · 2nd - ~I am submitting a letter from D~.LaPrade, Assistant Construc- <br />tion Engmneer, concerning the'Oroposed 29 Cut-off ~oUgH the City of Portsmouth', connecting <br />Routes 17 and 58 with route177near the NavyYard.'This connection is what ms eommonly known <br />as the Hamilton Ave, extension.. <br /> ii recommend t~at the Co,oil concur in this project byplac2 <br />ing on its first reading, an appropriation mn the sum of $113,00~.00, the said ~ds to be <br />made avaiiable if and when meeded to construct the project, and if necessary by issuing Im- <br />provement Bonds for the above amount.- <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Houghton that an appropriation of $113~000.00 for said <br />purpose, be placed ~aits first ~ading, was ad0pte~L <br /> ~rd ~ "I have' been advised through the Department of Highways, of the <br />~tate of Virginia that in the future in order to participate in Federal ~id funds, it is ~c- <br />~ssary that a comprehensive survey be made of the traffic in all cities and that the cost of <br /> <br /> <br />
