This Boys Club~ which has a membership of about 60 <br />boys~ was originated through the cooperative ~fforts of the City of Portsmouth in placing a <br />piece of property and a temporary building for the use of the Club. The land ~ud building are <br />located alongside the Portsmouth Stadium an~ adjoins the playground and memorial area desig- <br />nated as Childs Memorial Field. The Club house property is fenced in a~ its dimensions are <br />approximately 12Obyl$O feet. <br /> The Optimist Club now desires to erect a permanent Junior Boys' <br />Club house and otherwise expand the Club facilities on this ~ot of land and ap reject has <br />started toward this end. The Club feels that this goal could be accomplished more readily <br />the present site could be deeded by the City to the Optimist Club for the restrictive use as <br />a Boys' Club as discussed with you recently by our Vice President WoYo Austin. The permanent <br />construction should begin very shortly if present plans materialize. <br /> The Optimist Club ~Dpreciates the coooeration of your office and <br />City Recreation B~reau in the past in aiding the club in its efforts to make a boys club hou <br />available in this area.
