Sturtevant~ ru~es were suspended and privilege of <br />the floor was g.ranted Fram_k D. Lawrence~ Who ihvited the Cmty Council to ride in the parade <br />on Armed Forces Day~ May 20th. <br /> The followiag-report from the Planning Com~_$_ssipn was presented: <br /> '~The request of the Elizabeth River Tunnel Commm.smon for the nec- <br />essary permits for the construction of various parts of the tunnel in Portsmouth~ referred to <br />the Planning Commission by the City Council~ was takenup at its meeting held on May ~th. <br /> The Planning Commission recommends approval of the plans as sub- <br />mitted by the T~nuel Commission with the reservation that during cons~truction, Crawford St. <br />and Court St. shall not be closed at the same time. <br /> The Plarn~ing Commission also recommends the per~ent closing of <br />Dinwiddie Sto~ between Bart and Clifford Sts. <br /> ~The Maplewood Park request for the re-location of a certain stree~ <br />known as Ivy Circle~ as shown on the attached map~ was approved by the Planning Commission.'~ <br /> Motion of lit. Bilisoly that the request of the Elizabeth River <br /> Tunnel Commission be tabled, was adopted. <br /> ~Motion of Mr. Houghto~ to concur in the recommendation of the <br /> Planning Commission relative to the re-location of Ivy Circle in Mapleweod Park, was adopted. <br /> The following letters from the City Manager were read: <br /> 1st "On April llth~ 1950~ an ordinance w~s adopted for the <br /> purpose of accepting dedication ~y the United States of America of portmons of Detroit St. <br /> and Cambridge Avenue~ located in Barlow Homes. <br /> I am attaching hereto a deed of dedication and a resolu- <br /> tion authorizing the execution of the deed~ which I recommend be adopted.~' <br /> On motion of Mr. Howard, the following resolution was adopted and <br /> theproper officers instructed to sign the deed. <br /> ~See page 180 2nd - "I submit herewith a letter from the Auditor of Public Ac, <br /> counts~ together with copy of report on the audit of accounts of the Clerk of theCircuit Cour~ <br /> of the City of Portsmouth." <br /> <br /> On motion filed. <br /> <br /> 3rd - "I submit herewith reports concerning the status of the <br /> street lights that have been authorized by the City Co~mcil~ wP_ich have not been installed by <br /> the Power Company. <br /> I recommend ~hat an additional sum of $300.00 for street <br /> lights authorized be placed on its first reading.~ <br /> Motion of Mr. Houghton to place $300.00 en its first reading for <br /> said purpose~ x,as adopted. <br /> ~th - "I submit herewith ~eguest from J. A. Bass~ a former City <br /> Police officer: for a refund of his retirement compensation and I have been advised by the <br /> City Auditor that the amount due Mr. Bass is $59.82. I reco~end that this refund to Mr. <br /> Bass be made.n <br /> Motion of Mr. Sturtevant to appropriate $59.82 for said refund~ <br /> <br />was adopted. <br /> <br /> 5th - "The Portsmeuth Redevelopment and Housing Authority has <br />been advised that in plar~ing their project in the City of Portsmouth~ it is necessary that <br />the Bartholomew City plan be Drought up t o date amd that in order to do so, a sum not to ex- <br />ceed $3~O00.00 will be required. The Housing Authority has requested that the City appropri- <br />ate an amount not to exceed $3~000.00 for said purpose. <br /> I recommend that an appropriation of this amount be <br />placed on its first reading." <br /> Motion of M~.
