Denny~ Director of Public We!fare~ <br /> <br /> "The ~mnicioat stadi~was leased to ~. Pete Glazer, Treasurer of the <br />Milk end Ice Fund for Charity, for~ the evening of August lst~ 1950, when a benefit baseball <br />gs~e was to have been played. After two innings, the game was called on account of rain ~d <br />it was necessary to refund the gate receipts to the patrons. <br /> As the opposing teams were All American girls teams on t?~.~ a return <br />engagement could not be arranged. We are therefore requesting that $100.00~ which ms the re- <br />quired guarantee for a orofessional baseball event~ be refunded to the lessee~ check to be <br />made payable to Mr. Pet~ Glazer whose address is The Portsmouth Star~ High St.~ Portsmouth~Va <br /> As the flood lights at the Stadi-~m were turned on and off twice dur- <br />ing the evening~ ~. Glazer understands that there will be no refuud from the amountpaid for <br />use of these lights." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Weiseman to refer to the City Manager was adopted. <br />The following petition was read: <br /> <br /> "We~ the undersigned, petition to have Kmngman ~v., between Rodman <br />Ave. and Utah St. paved by ~he Cmty of Portsmouth. ~e are denied postal service by the Post- <br />mastor until said street has been Da~ed. <br /> ~Lrs. E.P C~ry and others." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Houghton to refer to the City Manager, was adopted. <br /> <br />i~'. Howard presented the fol-lowing letter from Mr. Jack Maoette. <br /> <br /> "Several months ago I paid under.orotest license tax on two buses - <br />City licenses EH 209 and 210 in the amount of $18~.67 whm~h was based on a rate of 70¢ per <br />1OO pounds and a flat fee of $30.00 each. <br /> The Council realizing that the license code did~inot ro erly <br /> ~ .~. ~- - p p pro- <br />vide for this type of c_assx~mc=vmon has amended the ordinance to eliminate the $30.00 fee. <br />I therefore respectfully request a refund of the $60.00 paid unde~ protest. Thanking you." <br /> <br /> Motion of M~. Howard that refond be granted amd. that an appropriati~ <br />of $60.00 for said purpose be made~ vas adopted. <br /> <br /> <br />
