It is a great pleasUre to express <br />the favorable action of ou~ Board upon the efforts of our citizens to edequately satisfy the <br />needs of the parking public~ especially when they are customers of our local business e stab, <br />lisb~ents. Every city today needs adequate Parking facilities. PortsmoUth has a difficult job <br />because of the ferry ~affic. Assistance wherever possible by our Highway and Roads Committee <br />was urged by the Directors.~ <br /> <br />On motion filed. <br /> <br /> 8th - "I am submitting an~reement between the City of Portsmouth a~d <br />the NOrfolk Coca Cola Bottling Works for a score bosrd at the City stadium and recommer~ that <br />the City Manager be authorized and directed to execute the agreement on behalf of the City.,' <br /> <br /> Motion of M~. Howard that theCity Manager be authorized to sign ~id <br />agreement~ was adOpted. <br /> <br /> 9th - ~'I am submitting the ~ttached letter and resolution~om the <br />Hampton Roads Sanitation Commission and recommend that the resolution be spread uoon the min- <br />utes of the council.,, ' - <br /> <br />Attached <br /> <br /> "I em inclosing herewith a certified copy of a resolution which ~s <br />passed by the Hampton Roads Sanitation District Commission at their regular meeting on Septem- <br />ber 29th~ 19~0. <br /> The' Commission would appreSiate it if this resolution were read to <br />your City Co~cil. Allow me to also express my own personal regret at the loss which the <br />City of Portsmouth has ~ustained by the death of such an outstanding civil servant." <br /> <br />Resolution - <br /> <br />"Upon motion of Mr. Treakle~ seconded by Mr. Gresham~ it was <br />resolved that the Hampton Roads Sanitation District Commission~ <br />upon being informed of the death of the Honorable Leslie Fox~ <br />Mayor of the City of Portsmouth ~d good friend to this Com- <br />mission~ express its deepest sympathy to his family in this <br />time of sorrow and to the citizens of the City of Portsmouth <br />for the loss of such an outstanding civic leader. His life as <br />a friend and advisor of citizens in all walks of life and his <br />staunch support of progressive policies in government was an <br />inspiration to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. It was <br />further resolved that the Secretary be instructed to certify <br />copies of this resolution to the family of Mr. Fox and to the <br />City of Portsmouth." <br /> <br />ger was adopted. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. D~ke to concur in the recommendation of the City Mana- <br /> <br /> 10th - "~@~ Chandler Haroer has ad~xsed me tn~t he would like to have <br />the C~ty s~onsor the Middle Atlantic Open <br /> _ Cham~monshmp Golf Tournement to be held at the <br />Glensheallah Golf Course~ October 27th~ 28th and 29th. M5 request has been made for funds to <br />finance the tournament. I recommend that this request be complied with." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Duke that the~City sponsor the Middle Atlantic Open Cham- <br />pionship Golf Tournament was adopted. <br /> <br />- UNFINISHED BUSINESS - <br /> <br /> An appropriation of $28~420.00~ placed on its first reading at a meet- <br />ing on August 22nd~ 19~0~ to purchase the Jeffrey Wilson Home site frma the Portsmouth Redevel <br />opment and Nousirg Authority~ was t~ken up. <br /> <br /> Motion of M~.~bward to appropriate $28~420.00 for said purpose~ was <br />adopted ~nd by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Bilisoly~ Duke~ Hough~on~ Howard~ Smith~ Sturtevant~ <br /> ~arren~ Wilson ~ Grmmes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> An appropriation of $780.00 from the ~ter Fund for printing the Appeal <br />Case of C~lpepper vs. the City of Portsmouth~ olaced on its first reading at last meeting~ was <br />taken up. - <br /> Motion of Mr. Grimes to appropriate $780.00 for said purpos% was ado~ <br />ed~ and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Bilisoly~ ~uke~ Houghton~ Howard~ Smith~ Sturtevant~ <br /> Warren~ Wmlson ~ Grimes <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> ~n appropriation of $300.00 tomy Virgil ~lunkett~ Attorney~ the sum <br />aEr~ed t% in the transfer of the parcel of land~ned ~y the City to Mr. Walter H.
