Sinwons was ~ead. <br /> ~'i wish to thank you for including the retired teachers in the bonus given to <br />help meet the increased cost of living. We deeply appreciate your unfgiling consideration smd thoughtful care <br />of us. Wishing you continued success in the ada~_uistration of the affairs of our City, <br /> <br /> The fo~owing petition was read: <br /> <br /> -- "We, the ~udersigned, do hereby respectfnlly request the City Council to take <br />proper legal action on this petition to remove what we term a nuisance existing on the corner of Bart St. and tl <br />New Airline Road, called the Huma~ Shelter for stray anLmals such as stray dogs and cats. <br /> ~ l~t - The dogs kept a~ this place c~ be heard several blocks away all times of the <br /> day and night, greatly disturbing the peace and rest of numbers of res idents Lu <br /> this area~ especially those who have to work nights and have to sleep in the <br /> dap- time. <br /> 2nd - Property owners who own. vacant property in the vicinity of this animal shelter <br /> ~o contemplate erectLug homes for themselves or their clients, decliue to do <br /> so, due to the fact %hat there would be no peace or rest to be had on accouUt <br /> of the barking and howli~ c~uines. <br /> 3rd - Any nuisance of this nature existing greatly lowers the valuation of property <br /> arouud it for a% least several city blocks away, and do feel that we should <br /> not be required to pay vaxes on property devaluated by any nuisance that <br /> exists which we are nov responsible for and one that c~u be corrected in a <br /> fair, legal ~ud ~micable -way. <br /> &th - Undersvand that we are nov reflecting on the character of the operators of <br /> this dog shelter. WREAS, the world of sports offers humanity at large much that is good both as <br />with respect to those who participate and the great audiences who sit in their <br />homes with their radios, and t elevisions ~nd on the side lines observing the <br />thrill of the game wherever it is being played. By the Lufluence of sports men <br />come together in one common bond of good fellowship; Nations are made to under- <br />stand each other better and youth is given opportunity to cultivate~ for lifetime <br />example and precept, the rules and practices for good which generally permeate <br />the great contests of our day.
