Howard, Smith and Houghton, I.G. Vass, City Mauager, R.C.Barclay, City Attorney, <br /> and F.J~. Bergeron, City Er~ineer. <br /> 7th - "Several months ago you referred to me a petition from citizens requesting that <br />out-door lighting be installed in the playground area at Carver Homes. <br /> I have had an estimate made of the approximate cost of this lighting which is <br />$3,000. If this is approved, it ~ll be necessary that I secure from the Housing Authority, permission to in- <br />stall bhese lights on their property. It will also require some kind of a priority to purchase this material. <br />I have not attempted to purchase the material pending the action of City Comucil in the matter. I am submitging <br />this for your consideration and if it is the desire of the Council $o proceed with the project or a similar one, <br />I will be very glad to submit a definite amount to the Council for appropriation for this purpose." <br /> <br /> Motion of ~r. Grimes to place on its first reading an appropriation of $3,000.00 for <br />said purpose, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 8th - "I submit two bids on air conditioning the Nunicipal P~i~ ding - the first from <br />the E.K. Wilson & Sons Inc., of Norfolk,Va., in bhe sum of $11,600.00 and one from A.L. Wright & Company of <br />Portsmouth, in the sum of $7,030.00, plus ~an additional ~320.00 for insulating the second floor ceiling. <br /> I recommend that the proposal of A.L.~right & Come, any of Portsmouth be accepted, <br /> including the amount of $325.00 for insulating the second floor ceiling." <br /> <br /> Motion of ~r. Weiseman that the contract be awarded to A.L. Wright & Company, the lowest <br />bidder, and that an appropriation of $7,500.00 he placed on its first re~ding, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 9b~ - "I submit herewith proposals furnished me by A.E. Parker, City Collector, for iu- <br /> stalling air-condition ~ equipment, in his office. <br /> I recommend that an appropriation of $3,000.00 for said purpose, be placed on <br /> its first reading." <br /> <br /> Notion of Mr. Weiseman that air-conditioning units be installed in the City Coilector's <br /> office and that an appropriation not to exceed $3,000.00 be placed on its first reaMi~g, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 10th - "I am attaching hereto a letter from the League of Virginia Municipalities, con- <br />corning a hearing in the City ~f Riohmond,~ to be held on Tuesday, ~u~e 26t~, 1951, at lO:O0 A.M., for the purpose <br />of considering a report to the General Assembly on the advisability of the State adopting an Act providing for <br />Federal Social Security end I recommend that some representative of Portsmouth be desigaated to attend." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Weiseman that the City Manager, Superintendent of Social Service and Di - <br />rector of Public %~elfar~e, and any Councilman ~ho can, attend the hearing in Richmond on June 26th. <br /> <br /> llth - "By request, I am referring to the ordinance concerning electrical _contractors. <br />This is brought to your attention for your consideration only." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Howard to lay on the table, was adopted. <br /> <br /> MOtion of Mr. Howard to suspend the rules to hear from ¥~.
