<br />Minutes of regular m~eting held on May 31st were read and approved.
<br />The following notice was read:
<br />
<br /> "The Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, x*lll hold a public meeting on Tuesday,
<br />Jnne 12th, 1951, at seven-thirby P.M., in the Council Chamber. The public is invited to be present and p~rbici-
<br />pate in the discussion of the budget for the fiscal year July tst, 1951 to June 30, 1952, a synopsis of which is
<br />as fcltows, etc."

<br />The Chair opened the meeting to the public~ · There was no response.
<br />The following~ reports from the City Manager were read:

<br /> 1st - "I am submitting herewith the annual Auditor's report for the ~ear 1950, pre-
<br />pared by Frederick B. Hill & Company, Certified Public Accountants.,
<br />

<br />Motion of Mr. Howard to amend the ordinance by making the m~imum~ fine not more than

<br />Motion of Mr. Howard to place~ the following ordinance on its first reading,was adopted:

<br /> Portsmouth on the day of , 19~_, presented bo thi~ Board or Council
<br /> an application addressed to the State Board of Education of Virginia for the purpose
<br /> of securing State School Construction Funds in the amount of $2~2,328.12 for the new
<br /> school building (or for adding to or improving the present school buildin~ at Airline
<br /> Turnpike between Howard St. and Hamilton Avenue.
<br /> RESOLVED, that the application of the City School BQard to the State Board
<br /> of Education of Virginia for $2~2,328.12 from the School Construction Fund is hereby
<br /> approved.
<br /> The Board of Supervisors for said County or Council of said City has, or
<br /> will provide sufficient funds through cash appropriations and/or levy, to complete this
<br /> project. If the School Board has sufficient funds on hand to complete the project, per-
<br /> mission is hereby granted for the use of said funds, for the purpose designated in the
<br /> application.
