September 25th~ 1951. 2~th, 1951, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: "Be it Resolved by the Board of Sinking D~nd Commissioners of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that there being insufficient money in the Sinking Fund of the City to pay the bonds of the City ma~uri~ during the ye%r 1952 without seriously d epletLug the security of the ~ity's remaining outstanding bonds, the Council of the City of Ports - mouth is hereby requested to make provisions for the payment of the following bonds falling due in the year 1952: $250,000.00 School Bonds due January l, 1952 $600,000.00 Sewerage and Street ImproM~nent due June l, 1952." On motion, the recommendation of the City ~L~nager was approved. - UNFINISHED BUSINESS - An appropriation of $5,000.00 to KLugs Daughters Hospital for use of the hospital morgue, placed on its first reading at the last meeting of the City Council, ~s taken up. vote: On motion of Mr. Grimes, $5,000.00 was appropriated for said purpose and by the followLug Ayes: Duke, Bilisoly, Grimes, Howard, Houghton, Smith, Sturbevant, Warren, Weiseman, Wilson Nays: None An appropriation of $30,000.00 from the ~ater Fund for building and ecJaipment for tion of the City's water supply, placed on its first rea~.~O~g at ~la~stf~meeting, was taken, up. Motion of Mr. Howard that action be deferred ~-ntil the next meeting of the City Council,was adopted. The following ordinance, placed on its first reading at last meeting, was taken up: ,,AN O~DINANCE TO AMEND CHirR 24 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, 1951, BY ADDING THERETO SECTION 24-57-1 RELATING TO INTRODUCING FLUORINE I~O THE CITY's WATER SYST~? Motion of Mr. Howard to table the ordinance until the next meeting, was adopted. The following ordinance, Dlmced on its first reading at the last meeting, ~s taken up: ~ 0RDIN~CE TO PJ~EAL SECTION 30-98 A~ TO ~d~E~D ~D RE-ORDAIN SECTIONS 30-94, 30-120 and 30-145 OF CHAPTER 30 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH,1951., On motion of Mr. Houghton, said ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: Ayes: Duke, Bilisoly, Grimes, Howard, Houghton, Smith, Sturtev~ut, ~arren, Weiseman, Wilson Nays: None - NEW BUSINESS - Motion of Mr. Houghton to ~spend the rules a~d that the privilege of the floor be granted a delegation from Wilson Ward, was adopted. J. J. Edwards, of the N~ple Shade Civic League, expressed thanks to the Council for lights installed and read the following petition: '~AS, the City of Portsmouth is building a new project known as Jeffery Wilson, and this property is being equipped with the necessary public convenience and this project joins Maple Shade, of which we are a part. THEREFORE, we, the ~mtmzens of this commmmity are asking that the Portsmouth Council,while making public improvements i~ the WilsOn Project consider ~ple Shade with sewerage and other improvements. Signed - J. J. E~ards and others." Motion of F~. Houghton that the petition be referred to the City Manager and City Eng!neer, and that this area be included in our new sewerage program, was adopted. Motion of Mr. Smith that the Chair appoint a committee to go into the library situation from all angles amd report back to the Council, was adopted. Manager.
