Barclay,City Attorney. <br /> MLnutes of regular meeting held on September llth, 1951 were read and approved. <br /> The following report from th'e Zoning Com~ssion was read: <br /> "The Planning and Zoning Commission at the regular meeting held September 6th, 1951, <br /> considered the requests of J. F. Livermon and J. H. Pettit and respectfully submit the f6-11~wing reco~nendations <br /> for your approval: i - J.F. Livermon to rezone the south side of London ~%reet between Crawford <br /> Street ~ud Middle Street by ll3 feet deep from Multiple Family Class "E" <br /> to Commercial Class "G". This makes the entire block Con~nercial. <br /> 2 - J.H. Pettit to rezone lots ~7 to #L4 ~uclusive, block .~38 ~p of Prentis <br /> Park beginning lll feet north from Gosport Road fronting 200 feet. on the <br /> west side of Piedmont Avenue by 100 feet deep from Single Family Class <br /> to Two Family Class "C~.'' <br /> ,Pursuant to the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance, notice is hereby given that a <br /> public hearing will be held at 7:30 P.M., on Tuesday, September 25th, 1951, in the Council Chamber, Municipal <br /> Building, ~orbsmouth, Va., for the purpose of altering zones and reclassifying the following property: <br /> ! - J. Pettit to rezone lots #7 to #lA inclusive, block #3~ Map of Prentis <br /> Park, beginning lll feet north from Gosport -Road fronting 200 feet on the <br /> west side of Piedmont Av~uue by 100 feet deep from Single Family, Class <br /> to Two F~ly Class ~C".'~ <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Bilisoly that the Council concur in Item i of the recommendation of the <br /> EonL~g Commission,was adopted. <br /> Motion of Mr. Grimes that the Coun_cil concur in ~tem #2 of the recommendation of the <br /> Zonin_g Co~mission, was adopted. <br /> <br /> C0~Mt~'£~m REPORTS <br /> <br />in status quo. <br /> <br />Mr. Weisenan, reporting for the Transportation Committee, stated that the situation is <br /> <br />Mr. Smith, reporting for the Gasoline Sales Committee, stated that their report would be <br /> <br />withheld until a later date. <br /> <br /> The following reports from the City Manager were read: <br /> 1st - Mr. Vass read a letter and inclosure from Dr. VermonA.~ <br />fluoridation of the City's water supply. <br /> <br />Brooks, opposing the <br /> <br /> On motion filed. <br /> <br /> 2nd - Mr. Vass presented a letter from E. E. ~tatthews expressing opposition to the pro- <br />posed extension of metered zones and the elimination of parking on some streets where it is permitted. <br /> <br /> On motion filed. <br /> <br /> 3_~i - Fr. Vass submitted a letter from the Portsmouth Junior Ch&mber of Commerce, sup- <br />porting the amended recommendations of Fenton G. Jordar~, Jr., as to parking meters. <br /> <br /> On motion filed. <br /> ~th - "I submit herewith a letter from R. S. Barrett, ~L%nager, Elizabeth River'Tunnel <br />Co~Eission, requesting permission to close Din~iddie Street temporarily, p~udLug the legal closing through the <br />Courts ~nder the Virginia Code of 1950." <br /> Motion of Fir. Howard that the matter be tabled until the City Manager and City Attorney <br />have had time to make further investigation and that report be made at a called meeting of the City Council,was <br />adopted. <br /> 5th - "I submit a letter from R. E. Glover, City ~ergean~t, concerning the appointment <br /> of two additional deputies at salaries of $3,180.00 each yearly. I recommend that this be referred to the Com- <br /> mittee on Salaries, 'gages and Classifications of Jobs to determine if in the opinion of the Committee, the ad - <br /> ditional officers are needed." <br /> On motion of Mr. Weiseman, the recommendation of theCity ~nager was approved. <br /> 6th - =I submit a letter from A. E. Parker, Secretary of the Sinking Fund. Commission of <br /> the City of Portsmouth and recommend that the City attorney be directed to prepare a Bond 0rd~uance for the re- <br /> fund of the $250,000.00 School Bonds on January 1st, 1952." <br /> <br />Inclosure - "At a m~e~ing of the Sinking'pehd Commission of the City of Portsmouth, held September <br /> <br /> <br />
