33'J

January 22nd, 1952.

9th - "I submit the attached letter for your considerations"

"The Portsmouth School Board, special session Monday, January 21, 1952, directed that I
request the City Council to authorize the Board to proceed with the installation of air-conditioning in the au-
ditorium of the new I.C. NorcumHigh School. The preparation of the building will cost $27,005.70, the equip-
ment and installation will be $28,~43.50, making a total of $55,1~9.20. If the building is to be prepared for
air-conditioning, the Board must be authorized to proceed at once with the building changes, unless construc-
tion is to be delayed.
The Board has saved enough on the estimated cost of the construction te mc~e than pay
for the necessary changes in the building, and at the outside will not need more than $20,000. additional from
the City for the complete iustallation .of the air-conditioning. It is quite possible that some portion of the
$20,000. may be picked up in further savings.
Since the auditorium is to serve the com~uity as well as the school, it is the opinion
of the School Board that it would be unwise not te provide for air-conditioning of the auditorium at this time,
and hereby petitions the Oity~Coumcil for permission to proceed with the work.
A.J.
