AVENUE" <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Grimes to lay on the table was adopted. <br /> <br />- NE~ BUSINESS - <br /> <br />The following letter from the City At+~rney was read: <br /> <br /> "On September 16th, 1950, the City conveyed to ~alter H. Parker, Sr., in consideration <br />of $1825.00, a smal~ parcel of land on the north side of High Street, near the Belt Lin, Railroad. The land was <br />improperly assessed to T. A. Williams by reason of a void grant, tmderwhich Mr. ~illiams claimed title. Mr. <br />Parker has attempted to make a loan on the pro~rtyand~. J. S. Lawrence, the attorney representing the person <br />lending the money, has requested that the City Collector be relieved of the obligation of collecting the taxes <br />assessed in the name of Mr. ~illiams, in order that Mr. Walter H. Parker, Sr., and his assignees will not be pre- <br />sentedwith tax bills. T~ City Collectershould be relieved of the obligation of collecting, and the following <br />tax~ assessed in the n~m~ of T. A. Williams should not be held as a lien upon the property in the hands of <br />Walter H. Parker, Sr., his heirs or assigms, namely: <br /> Taxes assessed in the name of T. A. Nitliams on Jib lot on N.S. of High Street - <br />1925 - $1.13, 1926 - $10.O0, 1927 to 1936, inclusive $10.60 for each year, and 1937 to 1952, inclusive $10.00 <br />for each year, together with i~terest and penalties thereon. <br /> The property is still~ssessed on the Land B~oks against T.A. Williams and the Com- <br />missioner of Revenue should be instructed to remove the assessment." <br /> <br /> Motion of ~r~ Howard that the tax be relieved a~d the Commissioner of Revenue be in - <br />st~mcted to remove the assessment from the land books, was adopted. <br /> <br />The following letter from the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce was read: <br /> <br /> '~t a recent meeting of the Board of Directors of the Portsmoath Chamber of Commerce, <br />a motion was tmanimously passed expressing their favorable opinion upon the reception of General A~derson's of- <br />fice to the overtures of Mr. Vass who recommended that the Highway leading through the Norfolk-Portsmouth <br />tunnel and into Portsmouth be given route Number ~60 Alternate. <br /> The fine work which Mr. Vass did in this instance is self-evident." <br /> <br />On motion filed. <br /> <br /> The following letters from the Department of~elfare and Imstitutions were received and <br />ordered filed: <br /> <br /> <br />
