<br /> Minutes of regular meeting held on April 22nd, 1952 a~d called meeting of April 3Oth,
<br />1952, were read and approved.
<br />
<br /> The Transportation Committee made the following recommendation:
<br />
<br /> "The Committee recommends that for the present the Tunnel CommissiSn ~et be requested
<br />to operate its buses beyond the Bart ~and Clifford Street loading and unloading zones.
<br />

<br />Motion of Mr. Houghton to suspend the rules to h~ar from anyone interested in this

<br />matter, was adopted.

<br />No one spoke~in regard to the matter.
<br />
<br />On motion of Mr. Neiseman, the recommendation of the Committee was adopted.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Howard, reporting for the Gommittee on Salaries and Wages, recommended that the
<br />salaries of the Clerk of the Hustings Court and Circuit Court be $9,~07~.0~ a?ear~.effe~tive~pril 1st, 1952,
<br />and that the Clerk of the Circuit Court's salary be $855.42 for June gai~ thg Cle~ of b~ H~-~tings C6urt salary
<br />be $835.00 for the month of June.
<br /> G~ motion of Mr. Howard, the recommendation of the Committee was adopted, and an
<br />appropriation of $377.52 was placed on its firs% reading.
<br /> ~he following reports from the City Manager were read:
<br />
<br /> 1st - hi submit the at%ached copy of the School Budget for the public schools of the
<br />City of Portsmouth for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 1953 and recommend that the City Manager be authorized
<br />and directed to include the sum of $855,604.00 for school purposes in the genere! City budge~ for the fiscal
<br />year ending Jume 3Oth, 1953."

<br /> Motion of Mr. Houghton to concur in the recommendation of the City Manager was adopte,

<br /> 2md - "I recommend that thef011owingamendment to City of Port%mouth Virginia Li-
<br />cense Tax Ordinance dated May~st, 1950 be placed on its first reading:
<br />
<br />'Each automobile, bus, taxicab, trailer, or semi-trailer, designed
<br /> for the transportation of passengers, and not operating as a motor
<br /> vehicle carrier under a certificate of the StateCorporation Commis-
<br /> sion, 35 cents per hundred pounds of weight or major fraction thereof'."

<br /> 4th - "I recommend that the ~ity purchase from Mr. and Mrs. Ackerm=n that parcel or
<br />tract of land lying east of ~ashington Street, between the Elizabeth River PlaygrOund on the south and Harbor-
<br />view F~nor on the north, running back from ~ashing0on Street a distaD~ce of ninety feet and that the sum of
<br />$5,000.00 be placed on its first reading for the purpose of paying for ~the said land.
