<br />The following letter fram the City Attorney was read:

<br /> "tn connection with the bill of B.F. Smith in the sum of $5.00 for the loss of rabbits,
<br />I find that Chapter 377 of the Acts of 1950 of the General Assembly of Virginia, provides that amy person who has
<br />any live stock or poultry killed or i~jured by any dog not his ~wm, shall be entitled to receive as compensation
<br />therefor a reasonable value of such live st~ek or poultry. This act-was amended in 1952 and made no material
<br />change in the above pr~visic~. Er. Smith is entitz%ed to be paid from the fund received from licenses on dogs."
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Howard that the City Treasurer be instructed to pay said bill of B.F.
<br />~mith in the sum of $5.00, from funds in her hands from collection of Dog Taxes, was adopted.

<br />The following letter from the Oity Attorney was read:
<br />
<br /> "In connection with the request of Mrs. W.B. Sykes to be refunded the sum of $513.00
<br />paid by her late husband in the pension fund c rented for the fire department, I find that Section ?O-A of the
<br />City Charter provides "if a~y member of either the police or fire department shall leave the service for eny
<br />cause or reason, there shall he paid to him not less than one-half of such remounts, if any, as may have been
<br />deducted frum his salary en account of contributions which he may have been required to make to the Pension F~md.
<br /> Section 19-? of the City Or,intones provides "any policeman or fireman who has served
<br />in th~ division for twenty years or mere amd has not or ~oes not receive a pension and who has heretofore been
<br />dismissed or shall hereafter vol~utarily leave or Be dismissed from the division, shall be refunded the deduc-
<br />tians fram his salary, made under this Chapter".
<br /> Neither of the above sections makes any mention of repayment of the fund in case ~f
<br />death, and the Council should establish a policy in this particular. Under the Charter provision, the Council
<br />is required to reik~ not less than one-half of the fund and under the ordinance p~evi$ion the entire l~md is
<br />re~anded where the person has bee~ employed mere than twenty years."
