Mcl~ran,was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mc~turrsa presented the following petition and letters reiative to the constz~action <br />of an eighteen hols~g~lf course: <br /> <br /> '~e, the undersigned, citizens and taxpayers of the City of Portsmouth, realizing the <br />need for more ade~quate golfing facilities in this comumnity, do hereby petition the honorable members of the <br />Portsmouth City Council to construct without delay a top calibre eighteen~hold golf course sad adequate club <br />house to meet the needs of Portsmouth's m~ny, many residents, men snd worn,u, who depend on golf for their recrea- <br />tion. <br /> Inasmuch as the-Glensheallah Golf club will close shortly, we believe it urgent that <br />you take some ~mmediate action toward providing the above-mentioned course. ~%~nen Glensheallah does close, only <br />City Park will be available to the general public and that very short course is completely incapable of handling <br />the needs of the m~uy Portsmout~ people who want to golf for their health, relaxation and recreation. We believe <br />our City to be one of the few and possibly the ohly one of its size in the U~_tted States without sa eighteen hole <br />public course and that -steps should be taken to remedy this situation. Since our needs are immediate and since <br />it is recognized that the completion of a golf course requires many months, we earnestly urge that you give the <br />matter yov-r prompt attention. <br /> (Signed*) ~H.
